GriefShare is currently in its
fourth cycle which began with an
orientation on January 15th. Our
first session with watching a video
was on January 23rd. We meet
every Tuesday evening from 6-8
pm in Young Hall. The cycle lasts
13 weeks. Anyone can join the
group at any time. We do not
provide a nursery. I cannot say
enough good things about this
program. Healing can and does
happen when we apply what we
learn. The biggest blessings I
receive is when one participant
comforts another participant.
True empathy!!

The Community Rescue Mission, located at 4th and F Street, phone 479-782-1443, partners with area churches to meet spiritual and physical needs by providing meals, a place to stay, and church services. We thank everyone who helped with the “Mission for Apples Fundraiser.” The Mission has received a grant from the Walton Foundation to help purchase computers, a projector, and a screen. These will be used for educational purposes and to help clients apply for jobs.
Please be in prayer for the homeless and those that work to help them.

The Health Topic to Observe for February: American Heart Month
Submitted by Paula Andrews, RN, BSN
4 Questions of the Heart for Your Doctor How many times have you left the doctor’s office and wished you could run back in with a question? At your next checkup, be prepared. Write down these questions about your heart health — and any others you may have.
1. What is my risk for heart disease?
Your habits and your personal and family health history can provide important clues to your doctor. Talk with your doctor about your age, weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, smoking history and exercise habits. Ask what you can do to help lower your risk.
2. Do I have high blood pressure — and how can I control it?
High blood pressure can damage your arteries, heart and other organs. But it often has no symptoms. Ask your doctor where you stand.
3. What is my cholesterol level — and how can I keep it in a healthy range?
High levels of bad cholesterol (LDL, or low-density lipoprotein) can build up in the inner walls of your arteries — and may increase your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Diet, exercise and medicine can all play a role in reducing your cholesterol if needed. Your doctor can explain your other cholesterol numbers too. That includes your total cholesterol, good cholesterol (HDL, or high-density lipoprotein) and triglycerides. Know your numbers!
4. How does my blood sugar level affect my heart health?
High blood sugar levels may be a sign of diabetes. That can increase the risk of heart disease. Ask your
doctor if you should be tested.

From our Goddard Food Pantry Submitted by Elizabeth Eubanks
We expected and planned for January to be a busy month in our pantry. It sure was! During the first 3 weeks of
January, we gave away an average of 62 bags of food each week. This last week we gave away 79 bags of
food. We also gave away some warm winter coats, caps, blankets, toys from the UAFS Toy Drive,
children’s goodie bags, and baby diapers. We estimate that during the month of January we will help almost
400 households. Thank you for your generosity and loving spirit that enabled us to have these supplies for our
neighbors in need.
We heard many stories about how hard it is for some of our neighbors and how
worried they are about the cold weather and the extra cost for heating their
houses. Several came to our pantry this month who found themselves home-
less for the first time in their lives. Tears flowed as they expressed their thanks
to us for food, water, and blankets.
The baby supplies that were given to our pantry during the Goddard Children’s Christmas Program and
Birthday Party for Jesus have been a blessing! Some of these items are being given away almost each day our
pantry is open, so please consider buying some diapers (any size) to replenish our supply.
We continue to be blessed with food from the Fairview School Food Drive. Those canned goods have been a great help to us.
We will probably use all those canned goods by the end of the first week in February. Thank you again Peggy Walter and Fairview
staff and children for donating so many canned goods to our pantry.
We have signed up to be a recipient for the Postal Service Food Drive again this year. If you recall, we received many canned
goods items last year. We will need your help to get the canned goods from the Post Office in Fianna Hills to our church. Please con-
sider helping if you are able. More information later when the Post Office and Community Clearing House gives us the date. It will
probably be Saturday May 12. Please mark your calendars to plan to help us. Thank you! These are photos of some of the food we
received from last year’s food drive.
Goddard United Methodist Women
Plan now to attend the Northwest District Spiritual Growth Study at Central UMC in Rogers Arkansas on Saturday
April 7. Registration begins at 9:30, study begins at 10 AM and concludes at 3 PM. This study is titled “Living as a
Covenant Community” and will be led by Rev. Pam Estes.
Rev. Estes, as those of you who attended the study in Russellville will remember, is an excellent study leader. She never
fails to inform and entertain! Cost of this study is $15.00 if we pre-register. Please let Elizabeth Eubanks know if you
plan to attend. The deadline for pre-registering is March 30. We will take the Church Van to Rogers…yep, another excit-
ing UMW road trip!
Betty Morkemo has purchased additional books for our UMW Library. We love our new library location (it is in the
corner of the old library/conference room). The library is easy to use. Just select the book you would like to read, find
the card for that book in the check out file box, sign your name and date on the card, and return the card to the file box.
You do not have to be a member of UMW to enjoy reading these books…but oh how we wish you would join us. Thank
you, Betty, for leading our UMW Reading Program.
Circles will meet the first Tuesday in February. Our UMW General Meeting will be Tuesday, April 10. Dr Keith Fudge
will be our speaker. Please plan to attend Friends.
