This year, in addition to my service on CBFs National Nominating Committee, I am participating in a program called The Pastor as Spiritual Guide. I was invited to join this program last summer by Dr. David Whiteman, a retired baptist minister from Buies Creek. He and a Presbyterian lay-minister, Sarah Friday Peters, lead me and seven other pastors in monthly day-long retreats, and two 3 day retreats at the Avila Conference Center in Durham. The purpose of the program is to assist us in our spiritual growth with an eye toward the ways we lead the church in its spiritual growth and development. Though we began our meetings in October, the bulk of the program will take place between now and May. I look forward to the time spent focusing on spiritual growth and not just church programs or growth strategies. I pray my work in this program will positively shape the way I see my work. I believe that you will benefit as well. If you would like to talk more about it, please ask, I would love to share more. Peace, Chris * * * * * Called Conference to receive Trustees Recommendation. The church was informed at the November Business Conference that we have become the recipients of the McFarland Estate and that the estates proceeds are to be directed towards world missions and the world’s poor. At this point, the church is still receiving parts of the estate and the estate will not close fully until late this spring. But, the church has taken possession of property and the trustees have a recommendation that requires church action. There will be an opportunity to discuss the Trustees Recommendation during Vespers on January 7th. The church will be asked to affirm the Trustees Recommendation in a Called Business Conference, following worship, on January 11. If you have any questions about this recommendation, you may contact the Trustees, Deacon Leadership or the Pastor. Thank you for your time and attention regarding these matters that will soon shape the way we engage in missions for many years to come.
