My Dear Parishioners, Three Things: First: Scammers. Well, I have hit the big-time! My name and title are now beginning to be used by internet scammers. So if you receive any odd sounding emails, those emails are from someone posing as me, and so please move them to “spam.”
By the way, anyone at any time can open a new email account using anyone else’s name without any verification. These weak rules have made it easy for scammers to victimize so many priests and ministers and their flocks. This in itself, in my opinion, is a crime and the internet firms should be libel.
Second: Repairs. Now just a little update on some repairs and improvements around the campus. We met with a highly recommended sound man who specializes in churches, and he gave us a very good price of $15,000. So, a new sound system is on the way. Also, we do have a very good bid for repairing, sealing, and re-lining the parking lot for $29,000. We are still waiting on bids for removing dead and diseased trees by the old chapel and along Broad Street, but we are estimating somewhere in the $15,000 area. We are moreover looking at some concrete work, which should be no more than $5000. So, I know I am new, and I hope no one will be angry, but we will be sending out a direct mailing in September looking for some help with these projects. As I have said, we have a beautiful campus and I would keep it beautiful. Lastly, some thoughts on Patriot’s Day. Those of us old enough certainly remember where we were on the horrible morning of September 11, 2001. Certainly many families here in Bucks County were directly affected by the terrorist attacks. Some of our families suffered the loss of a loved one that day. Some suffered the loss of a loved one in the wars that followed. Many families experienced close calls—my own brother, who is a truck driver, used to make regular deliveries to the World Trade Center, and had changed carriers just before the attacks. All of us had our confidence shaken that day.
Yet, that same day, we were all edified by the first responders who were racing into burning and crumbling buildings. Among them was a priest chaplain of the New York City Fire Department. Many of those first responders, including the priest chaplain, would not return home that day. That day, those brave heroes gave us the hope we needed: the hope that good would triumph over evil.
Here we are then, 18 years later, and America still stands while Bin Laden is no more. Yet, the struggle
for justice and freedom continues, and it will always continue. I fully believe that, under the patronage of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Empress of the Americas, that we will always be up to the challenge and that we will prevail.
God Bless America!
Fr. Michael J. Pawelko

Sunday Preschool
OLSH invites you to register your preschool age child for our Sunday Preschool program. Each week during the 9:30am Mass, children ages 3, 4, 5, and 6 (if attending Kindergarten this fall) meet in the parish school. We use a weekly, Scripture-based program that includes Bible Stories, songs, crafts, and activities all designed to introduce your child to our Catholic faith. Children also participate in our annual Christmas Pageant and attend the Blessing of the Palms on Palm Sunday. The cost is $50 for the year and registration is required. The registration form is in the bulletin or can be found on the parish website. For more information please email Bridget Pustay at [email protected]. Our Sunday Preschool is scheduled to begin on Sunday, September 22nd. We hope to see your little one there! Our Sunday Preschool program is in need of teachers and teacher’s aides for all of our classes. If you are in 6th grade or above, this is a great opportunity to volunteer your time and talents. Some responsibilities of an aide include helping teachers to prepare their classroom supplies, assisting children with their crafts, and participating in activities and games. Classes are held during the 9:30am mass from September 22nd until April 29th. As our program relies on the help of volunteers for things to run safely and smoothly, we ask that you are able to make a strong weekly or semi-weekly commitment. If you are interested or have questions, please email Bridget Pustay at [email protected] .
Visit the Bake Sale Table in the Narthex after all Masses (or until sold out) this weekend September 7th and 8th. All proceeds benefit the Christmas Bazaar!
WE NEED YOUR JEWELRY! Bring us all of the jewelry that you are tired of wearing and put it in the Gems and Jewels Jewelry Box located in the narthex of the church. You can replace it with some beautiful “almost new” necklaces, bracelets and earrings from the Gems and Jewels room at this year’s Christmas Bazaar.
If you have any questions, please contact Johanne Marchese 215-802-3224
