FEEDING DIRECTIONS

Feed CHAMPION GOAT TEXT R20 WITH POWER BOOSTER MEDICATED continuously as the sole ration to growing goats. Make sure that feeders remain clean. In an effort to minimize management problems, goats may be offered approximately 10% good quality long-stemmed hay. Goats are ruminants; make all feed changes gradually. Fresh, clean water and salt should be available at all times.

CAUTION: Do not allow horses or other equines access to formulation containing Monensin. Ingestion of Monensin by equines has been fatal.

Feeding undiluted or mixing errors resulting in high concentrations of Monensin has been fatal in cattle and could be fatal in goats. Monensin medi-cated feed is intended for use in cattle or goats. Consumption by unapproved species may result in toxic reactions. Do not feed to sheep. For rumi-nant use only.

Starting The Goat on Feed

Start your Goat on full feed with daily ration of 1/2 pound and increase feed by 1/4 pound

every 2-3 days as long as they are cleaning it up. Provide good quality long stem hay at all

times. Continue to challenge the Goat as they grow.

Your 4-H leader or CHS Feed Consultant will help outline a feeding program for your Goat,

using the feed you have available on your farm.

Your feeding program will vary, depending on:

1) Age and size of goat

2) Feeds available

3) Degree of finish on goat

4) Final weight and finish expected

5) Consult your local veterinarian for vaccination schedule and preventative health

recommendations.

Goat Feeding Management

1) When hand-feeding, allow the Goat the amount of feed he will clean up in 45 to 60

minutes, twice each day. You may want to feed three times daily during the last 30 to 60

days on feed.

2) Clean out bunk before each feeding.

3) When hand-feeding, if your Goat leaves feed or has a poor appetite, cut back on feed for

one or two feedings until he regains his appetite for the feed

4) Feed should be increased gradually. After your animal is on full feed, do not increase his

feed any more than 1/4 pound per day. A change from one ration to another should also

be over a period of 5 to 7 days.

5) Watch your goat’s droppings for signs of trouble – scouring indicates he is getting too

much grain and not enough hay, or that he is getting moldy grain or other feeds that

cause digestive disturbances. When loose droppings occur, increase hay and decrease

grain according to severity of the case.

6) Feeding more than one animal, or having other animals nearby, helps to gentle the goat

and increase his appetite.

7) Provide free access to salt and mineral. Provide clean, fresh water at all times.

8) Work with your goat during the cool and comfortable times of the day.

9) Feed at the same time each day. Do not skip a feeding.
