GOAL

3
Ocean-Based Climate Solutions, Inc.has been unable, after some attempts over the last several years, to secure critical early-stage investment to fund proof-of-concept testing of their technology.
As evidenced by both their website and presentation materials, Ocean-Based lack a clear, compelling and accessible story for investors to support. Further, we’ll rebrand the company as SeaChange Labs in order to more fully realize the potential of their urgent mission.
DESIGN PROBLEM

4
■ Designing for a real company offers the opportunity to have a meaningful impact that is distinct from working on a project for a fictitious company
■ Working within my own personal skills (i.e. Ai, illustrations, different tools)
■ Working against a deadline (spending too much time on one element of the design)
■ Researching climate change and different technologies in how to reduce carbon emmisions ■ Finding innovative ways to tell a visual and compelling story

Competing for attention within a global landscape to resolve the climate crisis
We developed this device to dissolve immense amounts of CO2 from the ocean
It extends from just below the surface to 200 meters deep, the upwelling function deliversnutrients trapped below the sunlit zone, triggering primary production of phytoplankton(micro–single cell plants)

Our planetary future may well rest on the activityof millions of tiny phytoplankton. We have a plan to unleash
their natural cooling processes.
When our ocean blooms, our planet cools.

Our Solution
The Problem
Introduction
An unprecedented amount of atmospheric CO2 is driving dangerous global heating —unaddressed, rapidly rising temperatures will lead to devastating consequences for all of Earth’s inhabitants.
If we stay on the present course, global temperatures will increase by 4°C by the year 2100. We’ll be facing flooding of coastal cities, threats to food production, vast wildfires, higher malnutrition rates, unprecedented heat waves, water scarcity, drought, and irreversible loss of biodiversity.
We need to act now.
Global heating is our climate crisis.
of the Earth’s oxygen is produced by phytoplankton
50%
Phytoplankton are microscopic algae that thrive near the surface of the ocean. These tiny organisms practice photosynthesis, consuming atmospheric CO2 and producing breathable oxygen.
This process serves to regulate the temperature of our planet. But warmer ocean temperatures have starved phytoplankton blooms of the nutrients they need to grow.
Our Oxygenator™ technology serves to feed these algae with nutrient-rich waters from deep in the ocean through a process called upwelling.
At scale, this technology may save our planet’s future.
Phytoplankton: a small solution to a big problem.

Our Solution
Introduction
BuoyUpon deployment of the Oxygenator™ the two nylon tubes unravel and descend into the ocean secured by counterweights.
100% wave-poweredOcean waves trigger the opening and closing of valves controlling the motion of water in the upwelling and downwelling tubes.
.Upwelling tubeCool, nutrient-rich water is drawn up, feeding the phytoplankton.
Downwelling tubeWarmer CO2 dense surface water flows down this tube to the ocean’s depths, removing it from contact with the Earth’s atmosphere.
Warming ocean temperatures drastically impede the ability of phytoplankton to thrive.
Our technology delivers nutrient-rich water from the ocean’s depths to the surface where
phytoplankton live.

○ Executing multiple designs in order to come to a !nal product that is accesible to users and aestheticly pleasing
○ Focusing on illustrating rather than designing the landing page with typography, use of color, hierarchy and images set me back time wise but I discovered through this process of what elements to pay attention to as a Visual Designer
What were the results of this project?
○ My own limitations with experience as a designer caused time constraints but otherwise knowledge of software (Sketch) helped tremendously in executing designs and lead to a !nal product that I’m very pleased with
○ This course solidi!ed my desire to become a Designer and create beautiful, aestheticly pleasing designs that are accesible to everyone

Learnings:
○ Through this course I learned that with due diligence, eagerness and tenacity helped me retain new knowledge that I can utilize to attain an entry-level position as a Visual Designer
