“Our family has been riding motorcycles for generations, starting with my grandfather in Ukraine. Both myself and my father have been involved in motorcycle accidents ourselves.

You can expect us to handle the legal needs of your accident with the same care and attention as we would expect would be given to our family. We take motorcycle safety seriously, it is our family out on the road too.”

In an effort to meet the needs of the ever-increasing number of women riders, motorcycles and related accessories have evolved. This was evident at the recent AIMExpo in Orlando held October 15-18. FYI -- the AIMExpo features all things “power sports” and is a great trade show of what’s to come. Motorcycle manufacturers have figured out they don’t have to declare a specific model just for women, but they need to have motorcycles that appeal to women. On the other hand, accessories do need to be more specific for women and their tastes.

Pagsta Motors has relaunched their brand with three models – a chopper, cruiser and bobber. All three are lightweight (approximately 400 pounds), with a 320cc water cooled engine and a low seat height (25.5” to 26”). MSRP on all three models is about $4,999. To boot, the motorcycles are assembled in the United States. These are perfect bikes for new and returning riders. I would assume that the majority of the new riders would be women; while the returning riders would be men. Pagsta motorcycles are stylish

and should attract women looking for a great entry level motorcycle that won’t break the bank.

Kawasaki has come out with their new Vulcan S model which features “Ergo-Fit” adjustability so that this motorcycle can fit

just about anyone. This is done with some slight adjustments to the handlebars and foot controls as well as your choice of seat. Powered with a 4-stroke 2-cylinder 649cc water cooled engine, this motorcycle is great for beginners but also has plenty of power to hit the highways. Weighing

Dec2015 AIM Expo 2015 - Women & Motorcycling

Page 7: Go For A Ride Magazine, December 2015

in at approximately 498 pounds, this bike would also appeal to new or returning riders. MSRP with the ABS braking system is $7,399. So whether you are under 5’6” or over 6’1” (or somewhere in between!), this attractive and economical cruiser could be made to fit you to a tee!

The women’s clothing and accessories have also come a long way. It didn’t seem too long ago that when looking for a riding boot, I had to get boots which looked like my husband’s, only smaller. Back then, it seemed that all the chic boots

were not geared for riding; meaning they would not properly support my foot and ankle nor did they have oil resistant soles. Several manufacturers are now making stylish and utilitarian boots for lady riders. I also saw riding sneakers for women at the AIMExpo. These sneakers had all the comfort of a sneaker but with all the protection of a riding boot.

The AIMExpo had over 500 exhibitors representing manufacturers and/or accessories. In talking with many of the representatives, it is clear that they are taking into account the vast number of women who ride their own motorcycles and how those numbers will rise in the future.

Ladies, if you are not already riding your own motorcycle, consider taking life by the handlebars. The view from the front seat is way better!

The Complete Book of BMW MotorcyclesBy Ian FalloonHardcover: 288 pagesPublisher: MotorbooksISBN-13: 978-0760347270Dimensions: 10.2 x 1.2 x 12.2”$50.00

The Complete Book of BMW Motorcycles is a thorough year-by-year guide to every production machine ever built by Germany’s leading motorcycle manufacturer. All the classic bikes are here--pre-World War II BMWs such as the R5 that defined performance in that era; the military R12 that carried the Wehrmacht as it blitzkrieged its way across Europe; the Earles-forked R69S that offered the perfect platform for mounting a Steib sidecar; the R90S cafe racer; the K1 “flying brick”; and the GS (Gelände Sport) series that launched a dual-sport revolution, right up to today’s world-class S1000RR.All of BMW’s bike families

are covered--the side-valve machines from the early years, the early overhead-valve performance bikes, the postwar Airheads and Oilheads, the four- and six-cylinder touring bikes, the early pushrod singles, the modern overhead-cam singles, the latest parallel twins, and inline four-cylinder sport bikes. From the first model, the R32 that launched BMW’s motorcycle dynasty, to the latest (and fastest) model, the World-Superbike-dominating S1000RR, The Complete Book of BMW Motorcycles captures nearly a century of motorcycling excellence with a combination of historic and contemporary photos.

Complete technical specifications for each model make this book a must-have for any serious BMW aficionado. Don’t miss the most thorough reference to these outstanding German motorcycles available today!

First let me send out my condolences to the MFC MC, Hillsborough County chapter. One of their members, Jeff Nichols was seriously injured and his wife Dawn lost her life in a crash in Tampa. They were merely waiting at an intersection when two cars collided sending one of the cars into the Nichols. November has been a wicked month for bike fatalities, please be careful.

Whether you enjoy the hot, sticky rides or you prefer the low humidity, cooler air blowing in your face (me!), if you’re planning a long ride, pay attention. New riders often hear the call of the long road and hit the highway only to have a bad experience. This was brought to mind when a guy was looking over my Ultra and I was sharing some of its amenities that make an out of state trip more enjoyable. He said he was looking forward to a trip he wants to do to Texas…on his Yamaha 800. Not that it can’t be done, but I started feeling his pain as he spoke. He has never done a long ride before and that is number one when preparing for a long haul experience. Get out and do some all-day riding. Get used to your bike and your body after being on the road for 6, 8 or 10 hours.

There are some essentials that you should have when taking a trip on the iron horse. Always be sure to pack your gear with weight limits and balance in mind.

Let’s start with Tools. I am not a motorhead guy, but basic tools could get you out of a tight spot. Most bikes come with a tool kit, but you might want to add things like fix-a-flat and an air pump; electrical tape; wire strippers; spare fuses and a flashlight. Many riders have a road service policy for their bikes. (Editor’s Note: Check the AAA ad at the front of this issue.) Next, include a small first aid kit. You’re not doing surgery here, but some antiseptic, a few bandages, and pain reliever would be a minimum. (My kit also contains TP…you just never know). I can’t stress enough to watch the weather. It’s easy nowadays to get on the computer or smart phone and look up cities along your route.

Clothing; have a rain suit and/or a jacket for cold weather. Those cool days can turn into cold cloudy days in a heartbeat. Dress in layers for the cold…sun screen for the hot. Even consider ear plugs. If your body is injured, whether it’s your hands, your tush or your hearing from the wind, your body begins to lose energy. If you are fatigued, make a stop and hydrate.

Communications today means a cell phone. Be sure to bring your charger, both wall and auto plugs. An extra battery might not be a bad idea if you don’t have a way to charge on the go. GPS is a must either on your phone or a stand-alone unit. Be sure it works and more importantly, that you know how to use it. Having one of those plastic coated road maps is a very good idea as well. You never know when those marvels of the modern age will take a dump and leave you in the boonies…lost. Be sure you have all your Paperwork. Have your Drivers License and registration, medical insurance card, emergency contact info (remember, that can be done on your DL); and/or weapons permits. Information you don’t carry on you should be in a waterproof bag.

Security on the road is very important. Your personal security is up to you. However, your bike is another story. Alarm systems are good but so are external devices. A biker friendly hotel will often let you park right in front of the lobby. If not, try to get a room where you can see your bike. Next, put a wheel lock and/or a chain lock on the wheels. If you can chain it to something, even better. Lock the forks and the saddlebags. Take that waterproof bag with your paperwork inside with you.

Pack creature comforts to make the trip enjoyable. Have some energy snacks with you like nuts or dried fruits, and avoid sugary snacks that will make you have an energy crash. I repeat; if you become fatigued, take a break. Have some sanitary wipes that you can freshen up with. (I already mentioned the TP). Comfort can also mean the right fitment of highway pegs and a windshield. Riding gloves are designed to avoid hand fatigue. Tooling around town with no screen is fine, but on the highway it’s a different story. Being buffeted with highway speed winds, bugs, dirt and road debris makes for a long day. Have the best eye protection you can get. Be sure it fits and test them on the road to be sure they don’t move around or fly off. The earlier mentioned idea of taking long local rides will let you know about the comfort of your bike. A good seat and a back rest can make a world of difference. If you ride for an hour or so, and your tush is giving you major pain, look into a new seat. If your hundreds of miles from home and riding is painful, it’s no fun. Don’t forget the helmet. The States around Florida are helmet States. Get out and ride and send us your pictures. We love photos from landmarks with you holding a GOFAR. B-safe.

‘Tis the Season to Go For A Ride. A Christmas ride that is. When it was founded in 1837, the area was called Fort Christmas but shortened to Christmas when the Post Office opened in 1892. That post office is extremely busy during the holiday season with those seeking the coveted Christmas, FL postmark on their holiday mailings. This is one of the few rides where we had to incorporate some toll roads as part of the route. Your electronic pass will work on your motorcycle or the state can bill you by plate number. Ride Safe and have a Merry Christmas!

The introduction last year of the Can-Am Spyder F3 was met with enthusiastic response from riders who wanted a more “cruiser-like” ride on three wheels. It was a fun ride but lacking a bit in storage and creature comforts. Those concerns are resolved with the introduction

of the F3-T and the F3 Limited. These models are equipped with a tinted windshield for added ride comfort and integrated locking bags for your travel goods. The combination of the saddlebags, front trunk, and glove box gives you 21 gallons of storage.

Ride comfort is assured with SACHS Big-Bore shocks on the front and an air-adjustable rear shock. Can-Am claims you’ll get about 250 miles

on a full tank of fuel and these two models are trailer ready. The F3 Limited also includes heated grips, rider footboards, shamrock chrome front wheels, and a 4-speaker audio system.

By Lowell Anderson of my riding buddies let me try out his brand new KX450. I was a bit tentative about riding a different bike with all the issues I had been experiencing, but once I got on the track I felt pretty good! That’s when I realized the issue I was having wasn’t something I was doing, it was definitely something with the suspension on my bike. Right after I rode the KX, I rode my other buddie’s KTM. He has exactly the same bike as I do and when I got on the track, I noticed his bike was also better than mine. It wasn’t as good as the KX, but I could definitely ride it. The funny part to this story was that my KTM buddy decided to try my bike. When we came in off the track I asked him what he thought. His eyes were about 2 times bigger than normal and he told me he “would never ride my bike again!” he told me he felt like he was going to die out there. (poor guy…)

I think one of the best parts to owning any vehicle is customizing it to make it your own. Adding different aftermarket parts to your bike is part of the joy of owning a vehicle. Over the years I have modified and customized hundreds of bikes from every different segment. Street bikes, Sport bikes and everything in between.

When it comes to modifying my dirt bike, things are different. I tend to look for items that are function based over aesthetics. My dirt bike needs to perform. It has to run well and handle well in order for me to enjoy the ride.

Recently I was having all sorts of issues riding my KTM 350SXF. The suspension on the bike was giving me fits every time I rode the bike. I was beginning to lose confidence and riding was becoming stressful instead of fun. I tried adjusting the clickers, set the sag, and worked on making sure I was riding with good form in an effort to figure out exactly what was going on. Basically the bike’s front end was all over the place. When I would come off the lip of a jump, the bike would literally pull to one side or another. Over the braking bumps, the bike would hop and move all over the place. For weeks I tried different things to solve the issue, but nothing seemed to work, and I was beginning to think the issue was me. Maybe I was doing something wrong?

One day while riding at a local track one

Needless to say I knew I had to do something, so I started calling some friends and getting some advice. I determined that the bike was sprung way too heavy for my weight, and I reached out to a friend from KTM who gave me some advice on what to do. Two weeks later I got the suspension back and put it on the bike. After a couple of weekends of rain, which was really depressing, I got a chance to try it out.

I knew instantly that the problem was resolved. The bike handled great and I was able to go over braking bumps without the bike being unpredictable. The installation of the lighter springs and the valve work was fairly inexpensive compared to the result. What I learned from this experience was suspension is more important than motor in some cases. This modification made riding fun again. Dollar for dollar this was the best money spent.

Road Trippin’ Time Flies When You’re Havin’ Fun

www.gofarmag.com

WOW! Looking at the calendar I got a real reality check. Can it really be? Is December really breathing down our necks? Taking a quick glance in the rear view mirror, sure enough there it is another Christmas comin’ up the road and quickly gainin’ on us.

To say the least, it has been a fantastic year for me and if even a small fraction of my “wanna see” for 2016 becomes reality the future not only looks bright but it’s gonna to be a very, very exciting year. But for now, time is slowing down. Most of the country is bracing for cold weather and snow, my touring days are over till spring, giving me a chance to catch my breath, do some much needed work around the homestead and plan for the next ridin’ season.

We all know the story behind the Christmas Season or the “Reason for the season” as the saying goes. But with all the happenings, good cheer, charity rides, Toys for Tots and hustle and bustle that goes along with the Christmas season we seem to get caught up in all the fuss and over look at how blessed we as Americans really are, but more then that I for one seem to forget how precious our freedom really is because my freedom to ride unrestricted, to say what I want, to worship as I please and do pretty much whatever I want has always been there, I forget how much I have to lose if I don’t make a serious effort to keep it.

I truly believe that America is God’s chosen land of Milk and Honey. I honestly believe history has proven that America has been blessed from the get go. The fact that 13 starving, unorganized colonies were able to whip up on the number 1 power of the world back in 1776 to gain our freedom

from tyranny was not an accident, it was by predetermined divine propose. There ain’t no doubt in my mind that America was destined to become the greatest nation on earth, to set the standard for the rest of the world to follow. However, I’m positive; I’m not the only one who sees in recent times how our individual freedoms are being slowly eroded away.

There is a story that goes: If you put a frog in a pan of water, put the pan on the stove and ever so slowly over time keep turning the heat up a little at a time the frog will stay in the pan till it boils to death. Maybe this Christmas Season we need to check the temperature of the water and figure out if we need to turn the stove down.

Folks who choose to ride a motorcycle do so because they want to make a statement, a statement that says, I love my freedom, a statement that says I dare to be different. It tells the world that not everyone is cut from the same cloth. “Bikers” have always represented a type of rebel that is just a part of who we are. Let’s not let that individual rebel freedom be taken away. Let’s make this Christmas the Christmas we let the country’s leaders know that America is about her people and not about what is politically correct according to the rest of the world. This is America and we don’t have to answer to anyone but God. Let’s let the public servants know that we want our country to stand for the freedom of the individual and not about being controlled by a few who think they have power and authority.

Christmas always has been a time for change. A change that began from the very first Christmas and has never stopped. Yes for sure, Christmas is a time to celebrate with family and friends, a time to spread good cheer and to do something special for the ones we love. It’s a time that brings families together. Christmas even has the power to temporarily stop wars.

This Christmas, take a moment to remember the reason for the season. Take time to remember those who can’t be with their families and to remember the families who will miss those keeping us free. Let’s make this Christmas a new

beginning by taking back our God given right to be Free Americans.

Wishing all a very Merry Christmas.

December Riding Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

from the Tom and I. It’s just around the corner in case you haven’t noticed. Now let me ask you this, where is the cooler weather that goes with the holidays? I think our northern friends forgot to bring it with them.

I just love this time of year, starting with Halloween, then Thanksgiving, and onto Christmas. All the colorful decorations just seem to pop up all over the place. Even Mother Nature takes part in supplying us with beauty, check out this photo. Between St R 27 and CR 78 we stopped alongside the road to get this shot. I couldn’t believe my eyes at all the Black-eyed Suzies, I think that’s what they are called. I didn’t get to make it up to the mountains for the color change this year so I’ll take what I can get, this was beautiful. I share a lot of photos on my facebook page if you care to look at KruisinwithKati.

Have you ever taken off early in the morning and the sun is in your face and you just can’t see where the heck you’re going? That happened to hubby and I recently so we had to adjust our route. We were gonna take 833 but the sun was just too blinding. Didn’t really matter since it doesn’t matter how we get to our destination as long as we get there. This is a ride I think most will enjoy if you like riding the countryside. Sorry, no hills, just flatland so don’t get too excited. We come back to 29 and headed south taking New Market Road bypassing the town. This road just brings ya right back to 29 then go south about a half mile taking 846. Scenery in the wilderness is cool this early in the morning but ya gotta be careful. Be on the lookout for deer, turkeys and some nice size snakes, never know what’s gonna cross in front of your

bike. This road dead ends into 833, we went right for about 8 miles then we turned left onto 835 which runs all the way to 27 just south of Clewiston. This is a very relaxed ride, take your time and enjoy the scenery.

On the safety point of things, let’s see what comes to mind? The oh so ever happening more often getting rear ended. What is it that makes a bike so invisible at a traffic light when it’s sitting behind two cars waiting for a light change? Do people just don’t see us or are drivers so distracted that it’s too late to stop by the time their attention is back on the road? I know I’ve seen bikes blend in with the vehicle in front of it while waiting at a light. This is crazy and has always been my biggest fear since I started riding. Personally I don’t know what I can do to make sure I’m seen other than keep an eye on my rear view mirror until I know for sure the cars coming up behind me are stopped. For the first car coming up behind me I hit my brake light on and off until they are stopped. I don’t know if that helps but it makes me feel like I’m contacting them letting them know I’m there. I think the time when I saw the bike blending in he must have been in neutral because there

By Kruisin With Kati

were no brake lights showing. Guess the rider could have been just holding the clutch in; that would also keep the bike from moving without brake lights showing. I know if someone driving behind you is distracted all the lights in the world aren’t going to help if he doesn’t see you. It’s been written that we should always keep an out planned, but in order for an out to work, we must keep our eye on the rearview mirror so we know when the out is needed. Safety tip for this month “Watch those rear view mirrors while stopped”

Ok I’m gonna close for now. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a safe one with many miles and smiles. See you at the next Ft Myers Bike Night and the next Mugs & Jugs 4th Sunday Monthly party.

By RollinWithRikkiEveryone who attended the 3rd Annual Elvira Run put on by the Widows Sons Masonic Riders Association had a great time. After a round of stops we ended up at Bootleggers BBQ near Ft. My-ers Beach where we were entertained by Bite the Bullet band. They had good

food, many prizes were given away and a variety of bike games proved to be quite entertaining! Other chapters attended as well as people from all over the state. My parents even came, my father being a Mason himself. I want to thank Zak and Thumper and the rest of the chapter for another successful event! I am already looking forward to next years run.
