Change Is In The AirThere’s an evolution taking place in the media industry. Printed publications are now being enhanced and expanded electronically through the Internet, Social Media, and other outlets. Turning a page can now be done by swiping a touch screen.

This gives us new options for sharing information with our readers and promoting our business partners. Since there are still a lot of folks who still prefer the printed page we’ll be using this space to let you know what’s being featured on our website and what we’re doing on the social networks. See Ya’ Online!

Lane-Splitting in Florida? The practice of allowing motorcycles to move between lanes of slower moving traffic is permitted in many places around the world. California tolerates it and a few states have legislation pending to make it legal. The AMA even endorses it by noting “one of the most dangerous situations for any motorcyclist is being caught in congested traffic, where stop-and-go vehicles, distracted and inattentive vehicle operators, and environmental conditions, increase the risk of physical contact with another vehicle or hazard”.We’ve posted our view on lane splitting and have information about the states that are considering changing their laws. Give it a read and let us know your opinion.

From the BlogSmartphone Motorcycle AppsJust as technology has changed magazines, the device we used to know as a telephone has evolved into a super-computer with the ability to do far more than let us talk to one another. Smartphones have the ability to be customized with various software applications, we call ‘em “apps” that can entertain, educate, and even order up a pizza. We’ve set up a new category on our Website where we’ll review some of the most useful apps we found. And the best part is we’ll be looking for the free ones. Here’s a look at one of this month’s featured apps:

WAZE - This cool app gives you real-time traffic conditions and alerts about everything from accidents to slow traffic to the presence of police. (We’re sure you’re driving the speed limit anyway, so no worry.) It also brings in the social networking aspect for today’s traveler and has some neat customizable features. Being a Wazer, you’ll passively or actively contribute to the updates to the traffic conditions. It also has voice activation capability.

Shakes, Rattles, Rides & Rods Surpasses Goal For Parkinson’s

A big thank you to all of the sponsors, vendors, and everyone who donated items, or did anything to help make the Inaugural Shakes Event for Parkinson’s such a success. We surpassed our goal of $10K by $7,000! The proceeds will be donated to the Michael J Fox Foundation and the Dr. Frances J Zesiewicz Foundation for Parkinson’s. The primary sponsor’s were A&J Mobility and Attorney Fran Haasch. Many donations were received from our business partners, friends, and family and they are all appreciated. The Hidden River Travel Resort in Riverview proved to be the perfect location and their hospitality can’t be beat. Thanks also to the clubs who came out and to AMVETS Post 44 and American Legion Riders Post 148 for sponsoring the event and putting so much work into the planning and execution. Even though he’s a Parkinson’s patient himself, Rick Karczewski did an amazing job of being the architect of this event and helping to make come off so smoothly.

Planning for the 2nd Annual Shakes, Rattles, Rides and Rods for Parkinson’s has begun. See ya next year.

Check out our website at www.gofarmag.com for the complete story and more photos from the event.

Well gang, I hope you have been getting some ride time in with all this great weather, and hopefully you made it over to Daytona. I actually got a little free time on my schedule and was going to make the run across state, when I got about a quarter mile from the man-cave and my clutch cable snapped. I limped it home and got it to the shop. I will have to go to Leesburg and Biketober fest instead. Plus I have a couple of out of state rides planned, not to mention lots of local rides. [ Bikers don’t make bikes garage adornments]

I thought this month we would have a little fun with some of the past information I have put out over the years of writing for GOFAR. It seems that I cannot go anywhere and not have my police trained ear tune in on conversations around me. I normally don’t sit with my back to the door either. I normally let some of what I hear just go by, because after all, I am retired. I’m referring to people that put out some off the wall “knowledge” about the law. “Riding in a blue shirt on Mondays is against the law”...yes I made that up, but you get what I mean. So this month I have a little test for you. You know, bikers…walk the walk and talk the talk. So see how you do on my little quiz. {I don’t feel tardy…}

1) All Florida bike operators can ride without a helmet. T F2) All motorcycles must be equipped with two side mirrors. T F3) Florida is a NO Bike Insurance state. T F4) “Ape Hanger” handle bars can be as high as you can safely operate the bike. T F5) Eye protection need not be worn IF you have a windshield. T F6) There is no age restriction on motorcycle passengers. T F7) Electric turn signals are required in Florida. T F8) In Florida you can have a radar detector mounted on your bike. T F9) “Loud pipes saves lives”…You can have aftermarket pipes that are extra loud. T F10) Riding two abreast (side by side) is illegal in Florida. T F11) What is the legal alcohol limit for a Florida driver? a) 0.08 b) 1.8 c) 5.0 c) none of the answers.12) You are out for a ride and upon returning home, you find that someone broke in

& stole your stuff. You have been ______________. a) Robbed b) Ramshack c) Vandalized d) Burglarized 13) You get into a verbal confrontation with some dude who took your parking

space. It gets heated enough that he pushes you in the chest. You have been _____________.

a) Punked b) battered c) assaulted d) assault & battery14) Any person who drives any vehicle in a willful and wanton disregard for the safety

of persons or property is guilty of ______________. a) Careless driving b) Aggressive Careless c) Aggravated road rage d) Reckless driving15) In Florida, shoes and eye protection must be worn to operate a motorcycle. T F16) In order to receive a citation, the officer must be in full uniform, including a uniform hat. T F17) In order to accept a civil infraction citation, you must sign the ticket. T F18) I have 30 days to pay a ticket or set a court date for an infraction. T F

Hope you got an “A”. As they say, “Knowledge is power”. Let’s ride and….Bsafe.

Congratulations to the Eagle Riders of the F.O.E Moore Haven Chapter for one of your best events thus far... Personally I’d give ya 5 stars. Something for everyone from the kids cornhole game to the bike/car show and the totally cool lawn mower pulls. Very good food, excellent band and lots of vendors to go along with the over cast skies which kept folks from walking around complaining it was too hot. Again I’d like to say Great event and I’ll be looking forward to next years Party Under The Bridge!

April2015 Leesburg Bikefest 2015

You’d be hard pressed to find another motorcycle event that offers you as much for FREE as does Leesburg. The tradition continues this year with three music headliners, Lita Ford, Puddle of Mud, and The Marshall Tucker Band, and more than 80 other musical performances during the event’s three-day run. There’s also the Rat’s Hole Custom Bike Show on Saturday and the Baddest Bagger Show on Sunday, Leesburg Bikefest Tattoo Expo, Biker Games, Drill Teams, Team Extreme Street Bike Stunts, Ride Like A Pro safety demonstrations, and Poker Runs. Of course, it ain’t a Bikefest without the babes and this year they have the Hot Body contests for Ms. Gator, Ms. Bikefest, Ms. Ratmate, and Ms. Budweiser - all with girls provided by the International Bikini Team. And for the ladies, there is the Mr. LuckyMan Contest.

Poker runs sponsored by the Nam Knights America MC and US Military Vets Lake County will take off from the Veterans Memorial Wall, at the corner of Orlando & Lime Street. Even if you’re not going on a poker run, come down and honor all of the American Military represented on this wall.

Each year they strive to improve the event and bring in something new. This year they’ll welcome in some 4-wheeled beauties at the “Movie Row Experience” featuring cars that were stars in many of your favorite movies from the past. In addition, the “Then & Now Experience” will show cars from the past and what they look like now. Rat Rods and Muscle Cars will be on display Sunday and throughout the weekend you can view a 2/5 size replica of an Abrams Tank and a 1955 Chevy dragster which have been adorned with a POW/MIA tribute.

Leesburg Bikefest was first held in 1997 and is now one of the biggest 3-day motorcycle events in the country. Hundreds of thousands are drawn to the central Florida town where the historic business district is transformed into a motorcycle mecca on the last weekend in April. The scenic byways of Lake County make Bikefest a riding as well as a party destination. This month’s Scenic Ride Map will give you a good sample.

Complete info about this year’s event can be found online at

www.leesburgbikefest.com. You can also check out our website at

www.gofarmag.com for a look back at Leesburg Bikefest 2001. Read what our editor had to say about the event when he covered it as a freelance writer.

By Lowell AndersonRV dropped the clutch and stalled at the gate. He struggled all day and looked like he was fighting the bike and nerves all the way around the track. Moto 2 didn’t get much better for RV and it was obvious his suspension settings were not helping him for this type of track. He ended up finishing 7th. Shortly after the race was over, an image was released showing RV resting after the race. The expression on his face was worth 1000 words. Purely disappointed!

Round 2 was in Thailand and the RV that we know in the US came to race. He had spent the whole week testing suspension settings and when the gate dropped, he was determined to make a point. Despite the grueling hot temperatures, RV dominated moto1 and crossed the line seconds in front of his competition. Moto 2 RV got pinched off in the first turn, but was able to work his way up to 3rd which gave him the overall win. This was the One of the biggest stories in the

motocross world this past winter was the announcement that Ryan Villopoto was not going to race supercross in the United States for the 2015 season. Instead he had decided to go overseas to race MXGP for 2015. This was really big news considering that Ryan is the 2014 champion. Soon after the announcement was made, there were tons of rumors flying around as to why he decided to race his last year overseas. Some said he was having troubles with the US team, some claimed it was a money, and others said he just wanted to try something new.

What I really enjoyed was the speculation that was rolling around of how RV would do. Some people were saying that he was just going to go over there and clean house, while others said he was in for a rude awakening. There was quite a few humorous videos on YouTube highlighting the subject. One of the videos was a set in WWII with the German generals telling Hitler that RV was coming to Europe to race the GP. Hitler goes on a rant and says all kinds of funny stuff about RV coming over and dominating the series. Funny Stuff!

Many of my friends from Europe had the opinion that RV was not going to do very well, and if you looked at the footage from the first race, you may have thought they were going to be correct. Moto one,

first time the American flag was raised at the MXGP since Zach Osbourne won a MX2 a few years back.

I personally think RV made the right decision. He has accomplished everything he could accomplish in the US, and to go over to MXGP and win that would be quite the accomplishment. People don’t realize that MXGP is a completely different type of racing that you will find here in the US, and the European riders are no joke. Yes it’s a different style of racing, but they are good at it.

It is going to be an interesting series to watch, but I think RV is going to prove to the world why he is considered one of the best motocross racers of our time. It took him a week to go from 7th to first, and I think he is going to obtain the goal he is set to accomplish. Good for him and good for the USA! Road Trippin’ There Are Trees, and There Are Trees

www.gofarmag.com

‘Bout all I know about trees is I can tell the difference between a palm tree and an oak. I do know I enjoy a nice day at a park or takin’ a ride through one of Florida’s state or national forests. It’s always quiet, serene and the air just seems to be cleaner and fresher. A ride on a nice shaded road on a warm day just kinda revives my senses. It’s sad, that at one time, we came close to whackin’ all the trees down. I can’t help to but wonder what the country would be like today if the Paul Bunyan lumberjacks and their blue oxen, a couple hundred years ago wudda used a little common sense instead of just goin’ gung oh clear cuttin’. Maybe this “Global Warming” thing wouldn’t be such a huge deal today.

The one thing that haunts me and keeps me itchin’ to take the next road trip is the craving to see the next great marvel just outta sight around the next turn. Ever since I was a kid and heard about the tree(s) that you can drive through, the California Redwood national forest has been one of the places I’ve always wanted to see.

As I rambled down the Pacific coast from Washington State I rode through some fantastic forests and saw some massive trees. There are huge trees piled up on the beaches in Washington and even some in Oregon that are mammoth I was beginning to wonder how much bigger can the California trees be? The trees I had seen already were bigger than I could have ever imagined.

When I broke across the Oregon, California line I stopped at an info center to get the low down on the Redwood Forest and where to camp. They directed me to Prairie Creek Park Campground.

The park is maybe a mile off U.S.101 and it’s an outstanding campground. It’s not as secluded as I like but the sites

are large and not packed right on top of each other. I was lucky to get a nice site right on the creek and they accept the Gold Card which brought the price down to ‘round12 bucks. The nice thing about Prairie Creek is it’s in the perfect location for what I came to see, huge trees and the drive through tree.

The park has some big trees but to really see colossal trees you need to leave the park, turn left, and ride down Newton B. Drury Parkway. OMG! There are trees, and there are trees, these trees are gigantic. I mean blow your mind gargantuan! Even just along the side the road the trees or wider than a car is long and soaring way over 300 feet. That’s the equivalent to a 30 story New York skyscraper! To put that into a biker’s perspective the trees are 2 & 1/2 times taller then Evel Knievel’s record breaking jump was long. There’s a lotta pullovers along the parkway and self guided tours. Alls I can say is pull over and walk the trails. Once you get through all trees along the parkway (App. 8 miles) you are only a spit from Klamath which is where one of only three “Drive Thru Trees” is. The other two are Shrine Drive Thru Tree in Myers Flat and Chandelier Drive Thru Tree in Leggett.

All the Drive Thru Trees are in the “Old Growth Forest”. Old Forest trees have been dated as far back as 500 years before Jesus was born! The “Old Growth Forest” are the parts of the forest that

the lumberjacks didn’t cut down, usually on an extreme steep mountain side or down deep in a valley so there wasn’t a way to get the trees outta the woods. So be warned getting’ to the Drive Thru Trees on a motorcycle is gonna push your ridin’ skills to the limits! Remember those trees are there because of their inaccessibility, so gettin’ to ‘em is gonna be real test of your ridin’ talent. There are warning signs warning bikers to use low gear and extreme caution. The Drive Thru Tree I went through was the Klamath Drive Thru Tree. I was gonna go to the Leggett Tree but when I saw the road that leads DOWN to it I quickly changed my mind. Getting UP to the Klamath Tree was enough for me.

All the “Drive Thru Trees” are privately owned, so like everything else in California there is a charge to drive through ‘em. The Klamath Tree cost motorcycles $3.00 and I was pulling a trailer with my dog.

Who knows, maybe there’s a second trip in my future to go back and ride through the other two trees. Stop and see the Real Tree House built in one of the giant trees, ride the Avenue Of The Giants, and check out the log house carved outta one single giant log!

Howdy folks! Hope everyone had a safe St. Patty’s day and a Happy Easter! I gotta say I love these holidays because the colors sure lead me to believe spring is on its way. I get so tired of looking at all the dead brown scenery, bring on the green. But with that brings the fact that the tourist start heading back north, not good for a lot of the businesses because there goes their increase of income. It’s funny when I’m out looking for advertisers I get “it’s too slow” or “ can’t afford it” and then when the tourists get here I hear, “don’t need to advertise we’re busy and don’t need to”. LOL Amazing the way some folks think. Oh well, I do want to wish all of my tourist friends a safe trip home and I look forward to your return.

Events this time of year are also reaping the benefits of all the tourists

being here. The District 6 Moose Riders First Annual sure turned out to be a hit and a very well attended event in Lehigh. The Party Under The Bridge in Moore Haven was bigger than ever this year and the Mugs & Jugs 4th Sunday Monthly event in Lehigh is certainly bringing the swap meet folks and the riders together… But a word to the wise. Be CAREFUL what charities you are giving to and which you are asking for help… check them out before you get involved, there are some out there who look as honest as a bible but are the biggest scammers around! Just be aware!

BTW we have one more bike night for the Downtown Ft Myers, it’s in May… see you there, right?

If you’re out riding around and looking for an interesting place to go stop by the Chamber of Commerce in Lake Placid. There is a room there for tourists with a huge tv and a video to show where all the murals came from and how they got started. There is also a scaled down replica of every mural that has been in and around the area on the walls. See if you can figure out which ones have an item missing from the mural, they do this to see if we can figure it out. Last I time I was there this was a free day of viewing interesting stuff so don’t worry about the cost. Have fun!

Gotta run, lots of hugs to all, ride safe and keep it between the ditches! Kati… be sure to check out our website and facebook page, they’re always changing. Photos are my favorite!
