that breast feeding will not elevate their babies' exposure to the

drug, according to a new study. The findings are good news foryoung women who have received an organ transplant in the past or

who are taking the drug for other reasons.

    Therapy Without Immune Rejection

    (25 JANUARY 2013)

A new study shows that tissues derived from induced pluripotent

stem (iPS) cells in an experimental model were not rejected when

transplanted back into genetically identical recipients.

Not surprisingly, a cancer diagnosis creates stress. And patients

with prostate cancer show higher levels of anxiety compared to

other cancer patients. A new study indicates that stress is not just

an emotional side effect of the diagnosis; it also can reduce the

effectiveness of prostate cancer drugs and accelerate the

    development of prostate cancer.

Patients' Own Skin Cells Are Transformed Into

Heart Cells to Create 'Disease in a Dish'

    (27 JANUARY 2013)

Researchers have unveiled the first maturation-based "disease in a

dish" model for arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia/cardiomyopathy

(ARVD/C). The model was created using induced pluripotent stem

cells and a new method to mimic metabolic maturity. This model is

likely more relevant to human ARVD/C than other models and

therefore better suited for studying the disease and testing new

    treatments.

Artificial Pancreas: The Way of the Future for

    Treating Type 1 Diabetes (28 JANUARY 2013)

Researchers have conducted a trial comparing a dual-hormone

artificial pancreas with conventional diabetes treatment using an

insulin pump and showed improved glucose levels and lower risks

of hypoglycemia. Their results can have a great impact on the

    (29 JANUARY 2013)

This research provides significant insight into the reasons why

early-onset puberty occurs in females. The researchers located key

genes that trigger puberty and highlighted how external forces

(epigenetics) appear to be a possible cause of early-onset puberty in

oOne fifth of all cancers worldwide are caused by a chronic

infection, for example human papillomavirus (HPV) causes

cervical cancer and hepatitis B virus (HBV) causes liver

    cancer.

oCancers of major public health relevance such as breast,

cervical and colorectal cancer can be cured if detected early

    and treated adequately.

oAll patients in need of pain relief could be helped if current

knowledge about pain control and palliative care were

    applied.

oMore than 30% of cancer could be prevented, mainly by not

using tobacco, having a healthy diet, being physically active

and moderating the use of alcohol. In developing countries up

to 20% of cancer deaths could be prevented by immunization

against the infection of HBV and HPV.
