SUSTAINABILITY AND ARCHITECTURE
•Solar PanelsProvides heated stored water to boost and increase efficiency of boilers for space heating and hot water supplies. – Free hot water
•Sun TubesProvides natural light to rooms without external windows.Provides natural daylight and therefore reduces running costs.
•Solar powered ventilation fansProvides solar powered ventilation to internal rooms with no running costs.
•Passive VentilationAtrium glazing with automatic opening panels which constantly regulate the heat build up within the building and so reducing cooling costs.
•Grey Water SystemCollection of roof rainwater into underground storage tanks which is then filtered and pumped back into the building for the flushing of toilets and also watering external areas.
•Sustainable DrainageSurface water is filtered back into the ground through the use of soakawaysto reduce the amount of drainage put back into the Local Authority drainage system.
GNA Surveyors were appointed as project and cost
managers for the conversion of a dilapidated building
into a new music department for a public school within
the centre of Westminster, London.
The building required substantial renovation including
new mechanical and electrical installations, a new roof
and re-levelled floors and ceilings.
The challenges of a landlocked site with limited space
were overcome when the basement was extended to
provide additional space. The ground and upper floors
were converted into performance areas and lecture
rooms.
The acoustic performance of the building was critical
and sound insulation; reverberation measures and sound
attenuation were all installed.
In addition two apartments were created at the 2nd floor
level.
