Note from the GM

It has been quite a while since we hashed at Bkt. Gambir and the site of the hill being chipped away is sad to see and of course the loss of another run-site. We parked at our old run-site which is the side road midway up the hill and I thank Anjalai for giving me a lift since I was still in pain from my fall the previous Saturday when I was out setting a Phi run. The pack was a little thin on the ground, as normal when we go South on the Island, with only 31 members turning up. This was bolstered a little by having 3 guests, Madeline, Wanchor and our old member Horse turn out for Good Licker’s run. Once the pack had departed up the hill GL and I were chatting when Helmut turned up with Longhair just behind and late again as usual these days. The first runners returned in about 50 minutes with the others following in due course. The last back were Jerry, Shirly, Horse, Edna and Ah Nee. GL had conjured up some very tasty bee hoon for us all to eat and together with the flowing Tiger a good night was had by all. So a big thank you GL.

The Circle

Our guests Madeline, Wanchor and Horse were given our usual hospitable welcome to the run. Since there were only two bags of ce the guys did the gentlemany thing and let the lady stand!!

Whatever had completed a 100 runs some time ago but then went AWOL for quite some time. Nowadays she seems to be back and so she finally received her reward. Well done Gracie. Lynn Khoo sent a mail to the GM and signed it Manisha Lynn Khoo so the GM asked her what her real name actually was. There was a long story behind it but in essence (as I understand it and that may be wrong) Lynn Khoo can be translated to mean Cold Breasts and hence she added an extra name. I think that’s it or something like that!! The press cannot seem to get enough of Goodyear and he was in the press again this week. Not only that, he is in today’s (Sunday) paper as well! So the darling of the press had his bum chilled to bring him down to Earth. The last icing was for the Hare, Good Licker. An easy trail but long enough to give a good run out and a long steep climb to get the heart going. Tasty Bee hoon and a good, friendly atmosphere. Many thanks GL. GL was then joined on ice by Black German (Kali) who was invited to sit with the hare in response to his question on arrival “Who is the hare?” Now he knows!!

The Burst Run No: 2135 Date: 10th January 2013 Bunny: Good Licker Scribe: Akz Hole As I made fun of the GM before the run she got her own back on me by TELLING me to write the burst. Seeing how she has been suffering with her injured arm and is now banned from hashing for at least the next few weeks I thought OK lah I’ll try and describe it so that she knows what she missed!! Pre-run circle was called several times before the hashers assembled themselves slooooowly in what you could say was something like a circle. The GM was saying her piece or was it pieces, which I was avidly not listening to when she called the Hare of the day to describe the run. Just then a ringing in my ears suggested that the GMs phone was pinging away and I answered. It was none other than Polish Piper asking where the run-site was. By the time I had finished talking with him, the hashers were half way up the road and I missed all of the Hare‘s words. Nevertheless I set off after them shaking my head in despair at the mess they are making of the hillside with the construction. It has now encroached nearer to the Temple so much so that only a few cars can now park anywhere near it. Hence the reason we were down at the side road. I caught up and passed a number of Hashers, namely Money Come, Goodyear, Huge, Jerry and some others by the time I reached the top of the road. I always forget how long a climb it is and even then I was blowing a little. Straight on to the dirt track and forward. Passed another few hashers; Shirly, Toddy, Beauty Queen and Silent Man until I had Gman and Jaya in my sights up ahead. Down to the right we went off the track by the small stream and up the slightly terraced slopes with the stonework for steps until we hit a part of the concrete bike path. By this time I was piggy backing Gman, ie. using him to spur me on and to try and keep pace whilst Jaya was a little in front. Left on the bike path and then right about 30 metres down into the ‘plantation’ area where from there “The only way is up” as the song goes. A long slow hike up the hill with Gman in front, yours truly next and Jaya resting just behind. On the UP, Gman was saying he was tired and hence was taking it easy. It turns out he had cycled from home to the run-site and then went on a ride with Wanchor up the tracks before the run. Crazy guys!!!! By the time we hit the top of the ridge around 6.45pm I was sweating rivers and blowing quite hard whilst Gman wasn’t even out of breath. A quick respite followed as we pushed through the ferns and found the down trail just by a worker’s bungalow. Making our way down steadily we did it without much problem but I was glad it was relatively dry since it was have been very slippery in some places if not. Once we hit the farm area again it was a simple route back to the run-site but a surprising one too. The wide dirt track that used to be there has now become a wide concrete road almost 2 cars wide and leading towards the farm house up that way. It must have cost a fortune to lay it and I wonder why?? Another building project perhaps or just better access for the fruit farm? Who knows? But it was a surprise. It’s quite a walk back from there and though easy, the concrete made it a little hard on the knees. Finally emerging back out near the Temple we spotted Huge strolling down the road and learned from him that he had gone to the top of the new road instead of climbing the hills. Back at base camp the usual FRB’s Money, Iceman, Tiny, Marks and Spencer, Viking and guest Wanchor had returned and were on the golden nectar already. Viking was a little surprised to see me out so early as I’m usually at the back with Justbeer, and wanted to check my GPS to see if I’d SCBd. However with GPS proof and live testimony from my running companion, he had to accept that I’d done the whole run.

The evening then descended into its usual “night of debauchery” of eating, drinking and chatting. GREAT!!!!! A simple run, well laid out with good markings. The On Up, steep and long enough to have me blowing and sweating. A not too treacherous On Down but a long trek home; rewarded by some very tasty Bee Hoon and wonderfully chilled Tiger on arrival. A good and enjoyable evening! Another Tiger please Samy………..!
