DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION The Globe Model H-1, H-2 and H-3 Alarm Check Valves

are used in wet pipe fire sprinkler systems. They primarilyserve a dual purpose in that they prevent a reverse flow ofwater through their bodies (non-return) and also provide forthe use of a hydraulic fire alarm which is not dependentupon an electrical power supply for its operation. Throughthe use of a hydraulic retard chamber a time delay isprovided to eliminate potential false alarms caused byfluctuating water supply pressures. Where constant pres-sure water supplies are used the retard chamber (timedelay) is not necessary. By incorporating the use ofelectrical pressure switches, other supplemental alarms,annunciators etc. may also be used. A unique feature found on the Globe 3", 4" and 6" Alarm

Valves is the clapper being hinged to the handhole coverfor extreme ease of removal for inspection and service. Globe Model H-1, H-2 and H-3 Alarm Check Valvesmay be installed in both vertical and horizontal positionsand trim can be provided for both variable and constantwater supply pressures in either of these positions. The body of the Alarm Check Valve is constructed ofhigh tensile strength cast iron having considerable ductilityto reduce damage in field handling. All interior operating parts are machined from highlycorrosive-resistant alloys, each having high strength andgood wear resistance. Rubber parts are of selective materials which havegood abrasive resistance and long life expectancy interms of resiliency.

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

The Globe Quick Response GL5613 and GL8113 Extended Coverage Horizontal SidewallAdjustable Concealed Sprinkler for light hazard occupancies, have the lowest profile available for thistype of sprinkler, providing an aesthetically pleasing design. It provides sprinkler operation approxi-mately six times faster than ordinary sprinklers and can be installed wherever standard concealedspray sprinklers are specified when allowed by the applicable standards, and in accordance withNFPA 13. The sprinkler has 1/2 of adjustment for ease of installation. All that is seen on the wall isa 3 1/4 diameter wall plate color finished to match the specifiers exact requirements. In addition tomaking the sprinkler much less noticeable, the wall plate assembly also provides protection for thesprinkler from flying or hanging objects. The heart of Globe's Model GL Series sprinkler proven actuating assembly is a hermetically sealedfrangible glass ampule that contains a precisely measured amount of fluid. The 3mm frangible glassampule provides sprinkler operation approximately six times faster than standard response sprin-klers, they can also be installed wherever standard extended coverage horizontal sidewall sprinklersare specified. The wall plate is soldered to the sprinklers special upper support assembly in threeplaces. Upon the application of sufficient heat, the plate falls to the floor exposing the quick responsesprinkler. At the rated temperature the internal pressure within the ampule exceeds the strength of theglass causing the glass to shatter. This results in water discharge which is distributed in an approvedpattern.

The Globe Quick Response GL5606 Adjustable Concealed Pendent Sprinkler has a low profile,aesthetically pleasing design. It provides sprinkler operation approximately six times faster than ordinarysprinklers and can be installed wherever standard concealed spray sprinklers are specified when allowedby the applicable standards. It offers the additional feature of greatly increased safety to life and should beused advisedly and under the direction of approving authorities having jurisdiction. The sprinkler is availablewith a nominal 1" of adjustment and a low profile cover plate assembly. The 4 1/2" diameter cover plateallows for 1" clearance around the sprinkler body.The GL Series Concealed Sprinkler may be virtuallyinvisible as it does not interrupt the "smooth flow" of the ceiling. Globe's Concealed Sprinkler utilizes its 3mmfrangible glass ampule which is located above the ceiling and concealed from view by the ceiling plate.

The provided protective cap needs to be removed in order to install the sprinkler with the proper wrench.The protective cap must be replaced on the sprinkler until the time the cover plate is to be installed. The "pushon - screw off" designed cover plate is easily installed and with a nominal 1" inch of adjustment makes iteasier to get a proper fit at the ceiling. Operation of the sprinkler occurs when heat build up causes the solder holding the cover plate to thesupport shell to melt allowing the cover plate to fall clear. Continued heat build up causes the 3mm glassbulb to burst allowing the deflector to drop down and distribute water in an approved pattern to extinguishor control the fire.

The ceiling plate is soldered to the sprinkler's special upper support assembly in three

places. Upon the application of sufficient heat, the plate falls to the floor exposing the quickresponse pendent spray sprinkler. At the ampule's rated temperature, the sprinkler opensdischarging water onto the floor in its required and approved distribution pattern. A special spring is attached to the pendent sprinkler deflector that serves to provide a constanttension against the ceiling plate. This feature virtually ensures freedom from environmentalvibration problems.

The Globe Quick Response GL Series Dry Type Pendent Sprinkler is

designed for use in special applications such as freezing environments and

conditions where sediment or foreign materials might accumulate in ordinary

drop nipples.

The Globe Quick Response GL Series Dry Type Pendent Sprinkler utilizes

a 3mm frangible glass ampule as the thermosensitive element. This provides

sprinkler operation approximately six times faster than ordinary sprinklers. At

the ampule's rated temperature, the sprinkler opens releasing the bulb seat,

causing the inner tube assembly to move, allowing the spring assembly to pivot

alongside the inner tube. At this time, water flows through the sprinkler and is

distributed by the deflector in an approved discharge pattern. It can be installed

wherever standard spray sprinklers are specified but offers the additionalfeature of greatly increased safety to life. Quick Response Sprinklers should

be used advisedly and under the direction of approving authorities having

jurisdiction.

Globe GL Series Dry Pendent sprinklers should be installed

in accordance with the requirements set forth in NFPA 13.

These sprinklers are to be installed using a pipe wrench applied

to the outer tube. When this is not possible, the proper sprinkler

head wrench may be used with extreme care for lengths up

to approximately 18". Excessive force may distort the frame

thus destroying the unit.
