The subterranean tensions in the political landscape of Telangana have surfaced during 2001 panchayat elections and left a mark of its own. The hitherto political arrangement received a jolt with the emergence of TRS as it was articulating the people’s problems from the point of view of regional resources, cultures and backwardisation.

 

•  As the entire planning and development based on globalization is thrust on the native societies by external forces, the indigenous realities did not find place in the vision documents of the rulers. The tensions embedded in the political landscape have aggravated further and given rise to various articulations.

• The regional articulation of Telangana is one besides environment, gender, class and caste mobilizations. The emphasis on Information Technology as part of Globalization has given rise to the development of Geographical Information System(GIS) in India since late 1980s.

• GIS applications have far reaching implications in the field of planning the present study seeks to focus on the political landscape of Telangana. The Panchayat election results-ZPTC of 2001 have been analysed with the help of GIS and mapped at the mandal level.

•Telangana encompasses an area of 114812.5sq.km.Administratively the regions is divided in to 10 districts and about 448 mandals.

•Telangana’s political space is covered by Congress, TDP, TRS, CPI, CPM, BJP, MIM ETC. The political mozaicing is on the upswing after BJP pushing Congress in to coalition politics.
