IntroductionMany small to medium sized companies outsourcetheir accounting or payroll, call centre or logisticsfunctions. Whilst larger companies turn to outsourcingto cut costs or deal with fluctuations in demand. Inresponse, entire industries have evolved to servecompanies' outsourcing needs.

But how many managers really understand the benefitsof outsourcing and the issues around managingeffective and efficient business relationships andpartnerships in a global environment?

Cost reduction is important but so too are a raft ofother factors, often more so and providing real benefitsin terms of cost and risk management, responsiveness,innovation and extended service capabilities.Outsourcing is essentially a strategic approach.Although the decision to outsource may be driven by agoal of reducing costs, expanding service provision tocustomers to smooth out fluctuations in demand orprovide extended cover, it is about the need to makemore efficient and effective use of labour, capital,technology and resources.

The decision to outsource demands a number of keyjudgements around service levels, risks, costs andchange management, These Master Classes aim tointroduce options for selecting and implementing asuccessful outsourcing policy. Aimed at enterpriseseither considering outsourcing for the first time orwishing to review their current provision, these MasterClass seminars will address the key issues and look atcase studies of those with experience of serviceprovision in the outsourcing industry.
