3Do you want more than a qualification?
We believe the best way to learn is by doing. Our strong relationships with industry and business allow for unique access and learning opportunities. Industry-driven projects, case studies, excursions, teamwork, research projects, guest lecturers and project-based assignments mean that you develop resources and skills that bridge the gap between theory and practice.
How do we stand out from the crowd?
Our influential links to industry, a solid technology base and ground-breaking specialist research centres keep Swinburne at the forefront of education. We have a flexible and forward-thinking understanding of international government, education and business priorities, and are responsive to the changing needs of industry. This reputation for educational and research excellence enables Swinburne to attract highly qualified academics and educational leaders. In fact, Swinburne was rated the best university in Melbourne for Teaching Quality, Graduate Satisfaction and Generic Skills in the Postgraduate and Career Upgrade Courses Good Universities Guide 2010.
Is the world getting smaller?
At Swinburne we are keenly aware that the workplace has gone global. Distance is less and less relevant to the way business is conducted. So it is essential that tomorrows employees are internationally savvy. Strong relationships with international universities, such as Northeastern, give us a genuine world view that is passed on to our students. We are also the only Australian university invited to be a member of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU).
Swinburnes courses are developed and regularly reviewed in consultation with industry

Key goals of ECIU include fostering student and staff mobility, and sharing innovative programs that give students a competitive edge in a global employment market. We give our students the opportunity to see possibilities, not boundaries.
Where are we?
Global Leadership students are based at Swinburnes main campus in the beautiful and bustling inner-city suburb of Hawthorn. Just 1015 minutes by train to Melbournes city centre, with leafy green parks, the postcode is an extremely desirable residential area. Swinburne is based in the thriving hub of cafs, boutiques and bookshops that make up Glenferrie Road, and with the convenience of a supermarket and train station practically on campus, it offers a fantastic lifestyle. On-campus facilities include a library, computer labs, wireless internet, bookshop, sports centre, health service, counselling, and cafs. There are several on-campus accommodation options, or you can choose to live nearby and walk to class.
What gets us excited?
Just like you, we are inspired by innovation. Research is at the forefront of innovation, influencing and directing both the private and public sectors. This is why Swinburne is committing $250 million over four years to provide state-of-the art facilities and resources for teaching and research.
All of Swinburnes six faculties have been experiencing increases in research income, indicating that research momentum is growing across the university.Significant increases were also experienced in the Australian Competitive Grants category and the Public Sector Research Income category. This reflects the marked improvement in ARC grant funding in recent years.

DID YOU KNOW?
Melbourne is home to 50,000 international students
Melbourne is a glorious mix of contrasts and influences, underpinned by intelligence and earnestness. Capital city of the state of Victoria and home to 3.8 million people, it is known as Australias cultural, culinary and sporting capital. A mild climate, affordable living costs, an extensive public transport network and an abundance of parkland and public space, set the scene for a great living experience.
Where do you fit in?
Pretty much everywhere. When we ask our international students what they like most about Melbourne, they almost always say the people. Our long history of multiculturalism has created a community that is accepting and welcoming of new people and new experiences. Home to people from over 230 countries, speaking more than 180 languages, Melbourne is populated by numerous ethnic community centres and groups, which provide fantastic networks for newcomers.
What makes Melbourne?
In the city centre you can wind your way through Melbournes many laneway shops, bars and cafs, or step onto one of the grand main streets and get caught up in the colourful bustle that is the CBD. Melbournes inner-urban villages are also destinations for shopping, eating and socialising and have their own distinct character and vibe.
St Kilda offers beaches, clubs, restaurants and the famous live music venue, the Esplanade Hotel the Espy to locals. Carlton has an Italian feel, with coffee shops, restaurants, bookshops and an arthouse cinema. Prahran is the place to find trendy fashion boutiques.
