Helium was first discovered by a Scottish scientist named Sir William Ramsay in 1895, as a of by-product during
natural gas and oil extraction. Though, helium is extensively available all over the universe, it is widely
distributed on Earth.
Apart from being a non-renewable resource, helium is mostly found in natural gas in its impure form and is
extracted during natural gas processing.
Moreover, helium is the only resource that cannot be solidified by sufficient cooling at normal atmospheric
pressure. Therefore, in order to convert it into gaseous form it is necessary to apply a pressure of 25
atmosphere (atm) at a temperature of −272 °C.
