What sets you apart?Less than 1 out 10 American college students have an oversea experience during their academic career

S: It sets you apart because automatically it puts you on a higher pedistool than other applicants because you have something different and most people DONT study abroad7

Benefits of studying abroad

8

96% OF STUDY ABROAD ALUMNI CLAIMED AN INCREASE IN SELF-CONFIDENCE ATTRIBUTED TO STUDY ABROAD http://studyabroad.ucmerced.edu/study-abroad-statistics/statistics-study-abroad

S: So when they came, they felt more ready and focused to take on other, bigger opportunities. Their study abroad experience has led them to realize how big, yet small the world is and how easy it is to reach for the stars.9

Why study ABROAD?Experience Personal GrowthDevelop Leadership SkillsEnhance Academic LearningAdvance Your Career

(experience personal growth)- by experiencing independence. you are alone in this foreign contry and everything around YOU is changing, so you are constantly having to adapt yourself and your actions to change when you are in this country.

SELF RELIENCE- you are learning to do things on your own without relying on anyone else

-you gain confidence to do what you want, you are not afraid to do things alone.

(for example.. when i was in Israel and we all had to walk to the desert at midnight to watch the stars..everyone went their own direction and reflected on their own experiences)

-(develop leadership skills) you are the one representing america essentially when you are studying abroad, so you are constantly aware of how you are acting. This forces you to develop skills that you would not normally be using while you are here. For example... My tour group and I got lost in Jersualem one morning when we were without our tour guide, and one of us had to step up and find the way home.

(enhance academic learning) -rebecca took music class ... talk about she was able to emerse herself in what she was learning and get different perspectives than taking it in America

(advance your career) you can learn something you would wanna do there that you never even thought you would want to do her. It opens you eyes to so many opportunities.

Such asConscientiousnessExtraversionOpennessPerseveranceEmpathyResilienceEmotional StabilityCommunication skills

-being open and saying how you feel and expressing yourself.. that is how you become comfortable there, or just going out of you way to "ask for directions" or simply making friends to grab of cup of coffee with-empathy is a big one you learn about other people and are able to step inside their shoes. Without going abroad, its hard for you to understand a cultures struggles and routines because you dont physically get to experience it. When you are abroad, you gain more of an understanding of what theya are going through-emotional stability because you're not always there with your best friends, significant others, or family... you learn to rely on yourself and to be strong.-communication skills because not all cultures and communities communicate the same-- you have to adapt to the way the country speaks or acts and have to use those norms to communicate effectively.-communication skills because not all cultures and communities communicate the same, you have to adapt to the way the country speaks or acts and have to use those norms to communicate effectively15
