Social Media Toolkit Version 2.0 Date July 13, 2017 WHAT: A combination of violence insecurity and prolonged drought has left more than 20 million people – more than the populations of New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago and Philadelphia combined - in an area as wide as East Africa, West Africa and Yemen facing famine and starvation. People are dying needlessly every day due to what the U.N. has declared as the largest humanitarian crisis since 1945. WHO: Eight of the world’s largest U.S.-based international aid organizations: CARE, International Medical Corps, International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, Oxfam, Plan International, Save the Children, and World Vision, have come together under a new umbrella called the Global Emergency Response Coalition (G.E.R.C.). WHEN/WHERE: The appeal will run for two weeks from July 17 through July 28, 2017. The G.E.R.C. website is scheduled to go live with a soft launch on July 13 th , but please do not share the URL before launch day on July 17 th , as the campaign is under strict embargo.
