A dehumidifier is a device used to reduce the humidity or moisture from the environment of a particular area such

as home, office, shop, restaurant, storage facility, construction site, greenhouses, etc. On the basis of technology

used, dehumidifiers can be broadly segmented into three categories:

Heat Pump/

Thermoelectric

Also known as thermoelectric dehumidifier, it uses a Peltier heat pump to cool the surface andcondense water vapor from the air. It is much more quieter than a dehumidifier with amechanical compressor. However, due to its low efficiency, it is used in small areas. Ice buildup,the formation of ice on the cooling coil, can also be an issue with this dehumidifier.

Ventilating/

Refrigerant Dehumidifier

This type of dehumidifier uses technology similar to that of a refrigerator. The setup includescompressor which cools down metal coils to a temperature below the surrounding temperature.When air passes through these coils, the water vapor condenses on chilled coils, which is thencollected on a collection area beneath the dehumidifier. A fan is used to draw the air in and outfor maximum efficiency.

Desiccant Dehumidifier

This kind of dehumidifier uses a special humidity absorbing material called a desiccant, whichabsorbs all the moisture from the air passing through it. Due to lack of compressor parts,desiccant dehumidifiers are lighter and quieter than mechanical/compressor dehumidifiers. Thedesiccant material usually used is silica gel.
