He has designed and executed many projects such as bridges, flyovers-underpasses-grade separators, mul�storied buildings, complexes like SEZ and other manufacturing units, IT Parks, residen�al apartment, defence projects including pre-stressed concrete, RCC and steel structures.

Dr. B. B. PANDEYEmeritus Professor in Civil Engineering, IIT-Kharagpur. He has over 50 years experience in the field of highway engineering. Dr. Pandey has developed many new technologies in the construc�on and strengthening of highways. He has accomplished a number of research & consultancy projects of MORT&H. He is a recipient of many Na�onal and Interna�onal awards during his illustrious career.

Mr. B. T. JWALENDRA KUMAR Project Director, NHAI, Ramanagara, Bengaluru. He is a graduate in Civil Engineering and has more than 30 years experience in the field of design and execu�on of highways. During his tenure he has completed four lanning from Bengaluru to Hassan, 6 lane twin sha� tunnel on NH13, 6 lanning from Hungund to Hosepet and presently he is incharge of upcoming 6 lane Bengaluru-Mysore highway.

Mr. K. S. KRISHNA REDDYManaging Director, KRDCL, Bengaluru. He holds post graduate degree in engineering. During his illustrious career of more than 25 years, he has executed several challenging assignments. He was instrumental in introducing precast segment box technology, and in bringing DBFOMT Hybrid (ANNUITY Contracts). He is a recipient of many pres�gious awards.

Mr. SRIKANTH. B. JOSHIConsul�ng Engineer, S B Joshi Engineering Consultants, Mumbai. He is a post graduate in civil engineering and has more than 30 years experience in design and execu�on of major bridges, launching girders, marine terminals, launching pads. He worked in various capaci�es for Afcons and HCC Ltd. He has worked as an independent consultant for HCC, Afcons, Gammon, Leighton India, BBE Malaysia, L&T and Essar projects. He is a recipient of many pres�gious awards.

Mr. R. K. JAINChief Engineer (Rtd.), PWD, Haryana, Highway Consultant, New Delhi.He is an Independent highway and technical advisor to the Indian Road Congress (IRC). His illustrious career includes being chairman dispute review board & member DRB appointed by NHAI and state PWDs. He has worked extensively for NRRDA-MORD and has involved in many world bank associated assignments. He has published more than 30 technical papers in na�onal & interna�onal journals.

Mr. NAGESH PUTTASWAMYAssistant General Manager, Regional Head (Technical), Ultratech Cements Ltd., Bengaluru. A Civil Engineer by educa�on, has 25 years of experience in the field of design of concrete structures. He has received many awards in the field of innova�ve concrete technology.

Dr. ANANTH RAMASWAMYProfessor, Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Ins�tute of Science, Bengaluru. Research interests of Professor Ananth Ramaswamy involves various interdisciplinary subjects and broadly encircles, 'Analysis and design of reinforced concrete structures', 'Pre-stressed and fiber reinforced concrete', 'Bridge engineering', 'Structural and Shape Op�miza�on', 'FRP Composites', 'Smart materials and vibra�on control' and 'repair & retrofit of structural systems'.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOPBridges and flyovers are lifeline structures. These are the most expensive structures of railways and highways. Bridge engineering is a fascina�ng subject for civil engineers. Bridge design and construc�on technology have been growing con�nuously. Bridge building involves considerable amount of forethought, planning conceptualiza�on and in-depth study, as it calls for utmost economy. No risk can be taken in design and construc�on of bridges. It is therefore necessary that an engineer entrusted with a bridge work should have a good knowledge of various aspects of bridge engineering. Economy in construc�on and its long life can be ensured by the use of proper materials, effec�ve supervision and use of an economic method of construc�on. In the future, highways and transport infrastructure will face increasing pressures and impacts from a range of issues including changing weather pa�erns, popula�on growth, capacity constraints, shortages of land and capital and rapidly changing technologies that outstrip the pace of new infrastructure development. The long-term goal will be to create an integrated transport network with seamless connec�ons to mul�ple modes, including cars, buses, rail, and non-motorised transport. Thinking about these trends and issues, as well as new concepts and emerging solu�ons, will help us be�er understand the long-term challenges and will inspire innova�on.
