Mother’s Day Raffle Thank you to all the parents that sold and bought raffle tickets in our Mother’s Day Raffle. We were able to raise $2838 towards the Year Six Farewell. Year 6 is very appreciative. Congratulations to all our lucky Mums who were winners. Thank you so much.
Year 6 Election Day BBQ Thank you to all the Year 6 parents and teachers who ran the BBQ at the Federal elections last Saturday. We raised an additional $1,372.90 towards the Year Six Farewell. Well done!
Gold & Silver Assembly The Gold & Silver assembly will be held tomorrow at 2:30pm. During assembly we will present the Gold and Silver awards. Please join us as we acknowledge your children’s achievements.
Crazy Hair/ Crazy Sock Day Glenorie Public School will be hosting a crazy hair/sock day on Friday 31st May, organised by the SRC to raise money to purchase special plastic bottle recycle bins for our playgrounds. This will encourage our students to recycle their plastic bottles from the canteen. We will cash our plastic bottles in to purchase new water bottle refill stations, replacing our old bubblers.
If Your Child Is Absent – new procedure If your child has missed school, you must promptly notify the school. A note should:
include your child’s name and class include the date/s and number of days your
child was away explain why your child was away include other information as needed.
Sample notes are attached to this Bulletin, or you may like to do your child’s absences on the school App or you can email the school directly. If you do not supply an absence note within two days of the absence, a yellow letter will be sent home via your child to explain this absence. If an absence is not explained within three days of the first day of absence, your child’s teacher will contact you. If an absence is not explained within seven days, a letter will be sent home. If absences are still unexplained at this point, the Home School Liaison Officer will be notified to contact you directly. Please refer to our Attendance Policy on our website. If your child is going to be away for more than five days please let the school office know, as you have to apply for extended leave outside of school holidays. You will still need to write a note when your child returns from being away. We would really appreciate your co-operation in this matter. Thank you.
P&C Meeting The next P&C Meeting on Tuesday evening (28th May) will be held at the time of 7:00pm. We hope you can attend and contribute to ideas on how to spend P&C funds on school projects.

Internet safety tip - Stranger danger is online too
Ensure your child never organises to meet up with any strangers that they have met online. If they really want to meet up, encourage them to talk to you about it first and insist on going along with them. Remind your children to be wary opening emails from strangers too. They could contain spam (online junk mail), a virus (which will harm your computer), or be from a stranger looking for trouble. More tips at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/click
Lost Property With the cooler months now upon us we are finding lots of extra jumpers/jackets in lost property. If your son/daughter has lost an item of clothing, please check the lost property tubs near the canteen. As always, we insist that every item is CLEARLY LABELLED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME.
Uniforms As we have mentioned previously, this year our expectation is that ALL students wear full school uniforms each day (including school shoes and school hats or green beanie). Girls tights or long socks must be green not black and girls wear green shorts on sports days or skort. As the weather has now turned cold, we have changed over to the winter uniform for all students. We ask that the only jewellery worn is sleepers or studs for ears and only necklaces/bracelets for religious or medical reasons. Our school has always had a fine reputation for high standards of dress; this year we intend to strengthen that reputation… thanks for your support.
Animals at School We have had a number of parents concerned about dogs scaring our younger students. We ask that you please do not bring dogs onto the school property (mornings and afternoon). Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Kinder Enrolments We are currently taking new enrolments for Kindergarten 2020. If you have a child starting Kinder next year, please see the front office for an enrolment package. We will need to see an original birth certificate, immunisation certificate and proof of address. If you know a family who has a kindergarten child for next year, please talk to them about what our school offers and ask them to contact the office for a tour and/or to collect an enrolment package. Thanks.
Grandparent’s Day This year Grandparent’s Day will be held in Week 3 of Term 3. Our Grandparent’s Day will be held on Tuesday 6th August, combining it with Open Day and Book Week. We will be having a Book Fair and Book Parade on the day as well as open classrooms. We thought we would let you know well in advance so you can book in the day with the student’s favourite people – their Grandparents.
Stewart House Clothing Appeal Please support Stewart House & the Smith Family clothing appeal by donating good, clean, wearable clothing, shoes, manchester and blankets. Your donation helps both organisations raise much needed funds to support disadvantaged children in our communities. Please ensure you return your donation to the school office by Monday 3rd June. Donations cannot be accepted after this date. More bags available at the office if needed. Thank you.
Riding Bikes to School Many of our students are keen to ride bikes to school. Students must wear helmets and walk their bikes into school and place them in the bike racks (located near the office). It should be noted that the school will not assume any responsibility for bikes/helmets lost, stolen or damaged. If you allow your child to ride to school, please teach them all of the necessary road safety rules. Students are NOT to ride bikes in the school playground. If any child is seen riding dangerously or without a helmet to or from school whilst wearing a school uniform, he/she will have the privilege removed.
Become involved in your child’s education. Enjoy learning! Lyn Pearce Principal
