Principal’s Report

I came to school yesterday to see all the students and staff dressed up in absolutely crazy outfits with crazy hair. Congratulations to the SRC for organising a wonderful fundraiser which was well received by our whole school community.

Over the next few weeks students in years 3 and 5 will receive their NAPLAN results. If you would like to speak to your classroom teacher about your child’s NAPLAN results, you are welcome to ring the school office and make an appointment.

When you come into our school, you may see some workmen walking around. They are working on maintaining and replacing the guttering on some of the buildings. Most maintenance is covered outside school hours or in the holidays however sometimes work has to be carried out during school hours. I appreciate your understanding of how important ongoing maintenance is for such a large school.

On Friday Stage 3 students have been invited to attend an author visit (John Heffernan). They will all sit in on a story talk before recess. This will be followed up with a workshop for selected students after recess. Thank you to the Stage 3 teachers for organising what will be a very informative and interesting event.

Hopefully by now your child has decided which book character they will come dressed up as for our Book Week celebrations next week. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all families to come along and enjoy the Book Week parade.

Legends of League Finals Gala Day at Gunnedah

On Tuesday 9th August, ten league superstars from Glen Innes Public School woke at

5:30am to travel all the way to Gunnedah to play in the Legends of League Finals. Their enthusiasm, motivation and team spirit was incredible, earning them two wins and four losses. The competition on the day was tough, with teams from Tamworth, Warialda and Inverell bringing their best teams to compete for the trophy.

Gunnedah turned the weather on for us and we all enjoyed a terrific day of football and fun. The boys crossed the try line easily, with standout tries going to Peter McCarthy and Kaleb Hope. Charlie Ralph proudly converted his first ever drop goal in the last 10 seconds of game six. Mitchell O’Brien and Mitchell Duddy tirelessly tackled all over the park. Harlon McLaren, Koby Usmar and Jack Grob kept the opposition on their toes, setting up game plays and executing them brilliantly. Campbell Harrison made some quality tackles defending the line. Nathan Brodie impacted the offence and made a stunning run. Congratulations to all the boys’ efforts. Your sportsmanship and team work is outstanding and something you should be proud of.

Mitchell Duddy commented about the day, “The boys played extremely well and played with all they had in them. We started off strong but then got a bit tired. Then we finished off really strong with a win. We won our first and last game but lost the other four. We had great attack and defence so all the 10 boys should be very proud of how we went. Great job to our footballers.”

Campbell Harrison reported, “We all played six games. We lost 4 and unmistakably won 2. We all tackled well and ran hard. Well played to our winger Peter McCarthy who got two tries and defended well. So congratulations to all the boys.”

A huge ‘THANK YOU’ to the parents who supported their sons sporting endeavours by taking the time to drive to Gunnedah. Your passion for football and commitment to your child’s sport is a credit to you.

Book Week

On Friday 26th August Glen Innes Public School students and staff will be celebrating

Book Week by holding a parade, with students encouraged to come dressed as a character from any book. The parade will begin at 9:30am in the New Hall. Parents and carers are welcome to attend the parade. It is not necessary to go and buy a costume, as anything made from home would be more than acceptable.

Stewart House Mini Fete

On Friday 26th August, Stage 2 students will host the Stewart House Mini Fete. This is where students design activities, or sell items to all students at a small cost, raising money for Stewart House in Sydney. Students are asked to bring along a wallet or plastic bag with their name clearly labelled with small change to spend.
