Glamz Media was proud to be a part of the family-oriented, community-supported 2012 MS Walk held on Sunday, April 22nd at Hazel McCallion Se-nior Public School in

Mississauga, Ontario. An estimated 400 people partici-pated in the Mississauga-Streetsville Chapter.

Multiple sclerosis, commonly called MS, is common to people, aged 15 to 40 but may also affect children begin-ning at the age of two. Finding a cure is the ultimate goal of the research that is being funded by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. MS affects vision, memory, hearing, balance and mobility of the person that can totally affect the person’s quality of life. Canadians have one of the highest rates of MS in the world.

MS Walk started in 1991 and has raised money since then to support and provide services to help people living with the disease, their families and caregivers and at the same time, fund research to find the cure for multiple sclerosis. This weekend, over $4 million was raised in Ontario alone (http://mssoc.convio.net/site/TR?fr_id=1254&pg=entry).

Marlo Naughton, a Peel District School Board teacher, has been volunteering for the MS Society after her sister, Cindy Bakala, 40 years of age, was diagnosed with the disease twelve years ago. Cindy, who lives in Calgary, woke up one morning with the tingling and coldness in her feet that moved up to her waist by the end of the day. MS has minimal effects on her physical condition. With this, she can still manage a full time work. Volun-teering, travelling and becoming an avid scuba diver, Cindy’s positive outlook in life keeps her going.

(Mississauga, ON) Derek Ramsay is known by the Filipino community through many different roles – actor, model, TV host and celebrity. But what many don’t know is that he is also a vocal supporter of children’s futures in his home country.

Although Derek’s popularity in the Philippines is huge, his fame has also crossed oceans, bringing him to Toronto on June 9, 2012, when he will appear as a special guest at the Sharon Cuneta Live in Toronto concert at Massey Hall.

As a World Vision supporter, Derek works as an ambassador for children in the Philippines by making monthly donations to the organization. World Vision, a Christian relief, development and aid organization, has been on the forefront of providing support and assistance to Filipinos for over 50 years.

During a visit to a World Vision–supported community in Isabela province, Derek saw the work being

done after a bad storm had affected the area. From that visit, Derek observed that World Vision works with community members to, “give back their livelihoods. I really saw where the money was going and how many lives were being helped and saved.”

The child sponsorship program that Derek supports focuses on helping communities eradicate poverty and promotes education, two things that are important to him. “Education is everything,” he explained. “Without education, these kids won’t have a future. [Poverty] is a big problem. No one should live in that kind of environment.”

In an effort to help end poverty, Derek encourages others to get involved by asking us all to, “come in, support World Vision and support and sponsor these kids. It’s a great feeling to know that I’m going to secure a kid’s future.”

As a proud sponsor of the Sharon Cuneta Live in Toronto concert, World Vision Canada is asking Filipino-Canadians to say, “Count Me In!” to help end child poverty by sponsoring a child through the organization. If you would like to learn more and sponsor a child in the Philippines, please call 1-800-975-9064.

It’s a full house! Because it was a first-come, first-served basis on the night of Jenifer Camacho’s “Jenifer Camacho and Friends Dinner Concert” on April 14th, 2012, coming in just a few minutes before the start of the show would land you tucked in a corner with not much of a great view of the stage. The early birds were able to get the best seats at Prestige By Night at 4544 Dufferin St. in Toronto where it was held.

Once again, Jenifer Camacho displayed her love of music through a lively performance that captivated her audience. She shared the stage with talented friends such as Emiline Cruz, Jeanette Ricasio, Amsky Chan, Chyrell Samson, Mia, Nicole and Edessa.

Full of energy and emotions, Jenifer, with all her might, sang, to name a few, Dione Warwick’s I’ll Never Love This Way Again, Adele’s Someone Like You and Whitney Houston’s Saving All My Love For You. The night had to end with Jenifer herself and the rest of the divas hitting the notes singing our very own music, the OPM’s.

Well attended, it will not be surprising to see Jenifer Camacho back on stage again in no time!

The seniors of the the Prince of Peace Parish in Scarborough held their pre- 25th Anniversary celebration of the Founding of the Prince of Peace Church, on April 17. Over a hundred seniors pa-rishioners and their friends attended.

Pastor Rev, Fr. Regulo Imperial was so happy with the Seniors Volunteer Team of Ms Charity Ah-mad. Volunteers include Angie and Albert Akam, Hyacinth Myers, Doreen Pinto, Juliette Mendonca, Clair Fok, Bonnie Kwong, Kay Lue, Cynthia Acayan Priscilla Pinto, Ellen Yam, Susan Mohammad, Ma-ria Gomez, Jay Selda and Greta Hue.

On this Prince of Peace Church pre-25th Anniver-sary Celebration, George R. Poblete and Charity Ahmad started the program with a power point slide show of the Seniors gatherings through the past 11 years. (The Parish seniors gather every month. They have a theme, such as Heritage Day, St. Patrick’s day, Christmas, etc., where the volun-teers decorated the hall, have bingo games, dancing exercise for seniors, community singing, and of course, the refreshments.)

This April, the volunteers performed a line danc-ing, a modern dance exhibition, a number of ethnic choral groups sang, the seniors paraded in their native costumes, and of course, a delicious interna-tional cuisine. Charity’s team presented awards to the seniors with the best costumes, plus many gifts to the guests.

This Seniors monthly gathering was started 11 years ago by the then Pastoral Assistant Ms. Beverly MacDonald, to encourage the senior parishioners and friends to socialize monthly in the Prince of Peace Church hall.

Most Reverend Vincent Nguyen, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Toronto, will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Founding of the Church, (Church was Consecrated in May 1987) with a Thanksgiving Mass on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at 4:30 PM in the Prince of Peace Church. This will be followed with a formal dinner at Grand Baccus Banquet Hall in Scarborough, where 600 guests are expected to come.

The 25th Anniversary team of Gerry Cruz, Rolston Wong and Thelma Antazo and their committees are busy with the above preparations, including a Family Picnic for Parishioners on June 9, 2012, Saturday, at Goldhawk Park, adjacent to the Prince of Peace Church.

Have you lost the energy that you once had in your life? Are you feeling drained at the end of the workday? I know firsthand that women need to increase their energy levels in order to get more of what they want out of their lives. Lack of energy is the number one complaint I hear from every woman that I speak to.

Years ago I taught a software training class for five consecutive days; at the beginning of the week I had high energy levels. How-ever, by day 5, my energy was depleted--mentally, physically and emotionally. It took me two weeks to replenish my energy. Today, I use energy boosters interspersed throughout my day to help me reclaim the energy expended so that I feel revitalized throughout the entire day. According to authors Jim Loehr, Ed.D and Tony Schwartz, who wrote the book entitled The Power of Full Engage-ment, “managing energy, not time, is the key to enduring high performance as well as to health, happiness, and life balance...We must learn to live our lives as a series of sprints -- fully engaged for periods of time -- and then fully disengaged and seeking renewal.” In other words, if you identify and reduce stress triggers, learn to pace yourself, take excellent care of your body, set bound-aries around your life and create a support system, your energy levels will increase and remain high daily.

Identify and reduce stress triggers. Stress is an unavoidable part of life. Identify the cause or circumstances of stress -- where you were or your physical and emotional state. Life events such as traffic, work and family increase stress. Find healthy ways to cope with stress. Recognize that stress depletes energy, but your reac-tion to it helps you minimize the impact.

Learn to pace yourself. Determine what makes you happy and give yourself what you need. Pay attention to the parts of your life that are most important. Create daily practices that nurture your ability to build energy levels--take breaks, eat healthy snacks, listen to music, and focus on the present and what’s within your ability to control.

Take care of your body. Make yourself number one as a prior-ity; spend your energy maximizing your health and wellness. Do mind-body exercises, such as breathing, meditation and yoga. Be physically active everyday and get plenty of rest. Take time to nourish your body with a massage, which releases tension, revital-izes energy, and helps you increase vitality.

Set boundaries around your life. Say “no” to things that don’t support your overall priorities. Only accept requests that sup-port you at home and in the workplace. Learn your limits--pay attention to what you can and cannot do to reduce the stress of excessive demands on your life. Make the choice not to overload your schedule.

Create A Support System. Partner with a holistic health coach who can create a structure of accountability and support as you find ways to boost your energy everyday. Remember, life can drain your energy; it can steal it and suck it away--or, you can take steps to boost your energy. It’s kind of like putting up shields for the Starship Enterprise. When the shields are up and the armor plating is on, your energy levels are stored--and you’re fueling yourself. Take three actions this week to boost your energy. Email me at [email protected] share with me personally what has worked for you.
