PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Sunday 14 November 2010 saw the Club hosting the Tennis Victoria Premier League Final (formerly state grade) with Geelong, Kooyong and Liston tennis clubs being the competing women’s and men’s finalists. The club looked at its best with great tennis in a garden setting that we
know so well. Former club Presidents Ian Occleshaw, Graeme Cumbrae-Stewart and John Semmens were guests of Tennis Victoria and it was great to see them back at the Club. Tennis Victoria organizes the finals day very well commencing with the all the doubles played initially across 8 courts before commencing with the singles across 6 courts. The format provides plenty of viewing opportunities for spectators. It was great to see many members down at the Club enjoying the excellent tennis. Many thanks to Ross Johnson, Andrew Sucevic, Rob Jamieson and Andrew Semmens who assisted on the day with the bar-b-que and the bar.
Court 1 has been substantially rebuilt at the baselines during September and has settled down with the extensive rain over the spring.
The Board is pleased to advise that Rajesh Chawla has accepted its invitation to join the Board as a Director. We look forward to Rajesh’s contribution to the Board’s discussions and decisions.
December is a busy time with many social functions. We’ll be holding a social round-robin tournament and bar-b-que on Sunday afternoon 19 December 2010 for members who would like to catch up at the Club before Christmas. Further details in the flyer on page 11.
The Club is again organizing the Glen Iris Open over the Australia Day weekend. Court availability will be restricted but please come down to the Club to again see some excellent tennis.
The Club will be open over the Christmas/new Year period so please take advantage of the good weather and enjoy the club’s facilities. The courts will need to be watered before, during and after play to keep your courts in the best possible condition. This period is an ideal opportunity to invite your guests to the Club for tennis and the Board encourages members to do so. Please remember to pay the visitor’s fees before you commence play.
On behalf of the Board I wish all members and their loved ones the compliments of the season with best wishes for health and happiness for 2011.
Peter Gillieron Club President
