Givins/Shaw Public School serves students from Kindergarten toGrade 6 and is at the hub of a vibrant and diverse community inthe west end of downtown Toronto.Although the buildings have changed over time, there has been aToronto school on our site for more than 150 years and we areproud of our educational heritage.We are a comprehensive school and we continue to work hard tomaintain and enhance our reputation in the community as beingwarm, welcoming, safe, fun, and inclusive. Eco SchoolSchool yard enhancement has been a goal that students, staff andparents have been involved in since the renovation of the school in2001. Several garden plots have been planted.  Our butterfly gardenand the Kindergarten Conifer garden are beautiful places for ourchildren to explore.  Givins/Shaw strives to be eco friendly in all wedo. 

Well-being FocusAt Givins/Shaw we place a great value on the health and well-beingof our students, community and staff.  A variety of 'minds-on'activities are employed in our classrooms from Kindergarten toGrade 6 in order to assist students with transitions and preparethem for the next part of the day. We are also actively involvedwith our vibrant neighbourhood.

Safe and Caring SchoolsAt Givins/Shaw we place great importance in creating a safelearning/teaching environment. We have a well developed SafeSchools plan that effectively addresses issues related toresponsible citizenship. Respectful behaviour, progressivediscipline and appreciation of differences is expected of allstakeholders at Givins/Shaw.

AthleticsGivins/Shaw has a rich tradition in athletics dating back almost 100years. Both houseleague and school teams encourage students toimprove their skills and practise sportsmanship.
