Giuliano Mazzuoli’s passion for racing when he raced in the 1970s with the glorious Alfa RomeoGTA in competition meets today’s passion for time instruments. The powerful emotion driven memories of those days is the primary inspirationin the creation of the Contagiri watch (“contagiri” in Italian means tachometer).

The Contagiri watch is available in stainless steel and DLC (diamond-like carbon) or 18K rose gold and titanium. A limited edition series of the watch is dedicated to the 8C Competizione. Thisspecial edition watch is available in either stainless steel and DLC (diamond-like carbon) or in 18K rose gold and titanium.

Giuliano Mazzuoli presented the watch to Paul Newman, who besides being an actor of internatio-nal fame, was a race car driver who undoubtedly derived his share of powerful emotions from the tachometer. A special edition series of 25 Contagiri watches (25 because Paul Newman was born in1925) will be donated to the “Hole in the Wall”foundation founded by Paul Newman and will be put up for auction. The foundation provideschildren with cancer and other serious illnesses and conditions a camping experience of the highest quality, while extending year-round support to theirfamilies and health care providers.

The Offi cina Museo Ducati collection is a line of writing instruments completely handcrafted in Florence, Italy. Every pen is sculpted froma solid piece of aluminum that is shaped and milled into an original object with functional characteristics.

The Offi cina Museo Ducati collection (“offi cina” meaning “workshop”in Italian) is the fi rst range of writing instruments ever created by Giuliano Mazzuoli. The product line is inspired by workshop tools used in his grandfather’s bicycle workshop at the beginning of the 1900s in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, in the heart of the Chianti region of Tuscany, Italy. Passion and history are combined with mechanicalexcellence and a long tradition of motorsport. From this synergy the Offi cina Museo Ducati collection was born. The pens are red, made out of anodized, polished chrome aluminumand adopt the form of an End Mill, Thread, and Micrometer. There are also two new models in the collection, created by GiulianoMazzuoli to celebrate this prestigious partnership: the Offi cinaForcella pen, unique for its fi ve writing functions, and the Offi cinaDue Tempi, an instrument that can be converted from a ballpoint toa 2 mm pencil.

The strong personality of the collection is wrapped inside an originaland retro-style packaging.

Ducati Museum: handing down success.

Offi cially inaugurated on October16th 1998, the Ducati Museumhouses the motorcycle manu-facturer’s entire racing history. Founded in 1926 by the Ducatibrothers as an electromechanical company, today the companybears the fruit of almost a centuryof Italian labour and ingenuity, outof which it has amassed unforget-table victories and motorcycles, allof which are on display in the Ducati museum. The motorcycles are meticulously maintained and the museum houses such gems as the “Cucciolo” from 1946, with its simple 48cc four-stroke engine, the “Marianna” from1950, as well as original designs by Fabio Taglioni, the engineer and “father” of the Desmodromic system that is still used in today’s current production models. The museum takes visitors on an emotional trip down memory lane, reliving such races as Imola’s 200 Miles, the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy and the current world Superbike and Moto GP cham-pionships with ridersincluding Smart, Hailwood and Bayliss, along with many others whose names have become synonymous with speed and spectacular victories on race tracks all over the world. As well as a large red “helmet” crowned by 33 legendary motorcycles arranged on an illuminated track, the Museum also boasts seven themed multimedia rooms that provide a 360 degree overview of the history of Ducati and its motorcycles. The Ducati Museumbrings passion to life.

Ducati Foundation: driving social responsibility.

The Ducati Foundation is the entity that dedicates itself with passion, professionalism and pride to car-rying out not-for-profi t activities that concern the world of Ducati. The Ducati Foundation is involvedon various fronts in initiatives of a social, educational and cultural nature. The Foundation promotescampaigns that heighten aware-ness and educate people about road safety in Italy and in Europe. To conserve and underline the technical and historical heritage of the com-pany, it nurtures and promotes culture through education and training, also stimulating creativity and human ingenuity through the School of Historic Italian Automobile and Motorcycle Restoration (the so called “Scuola restauro auto e moto d’epoca Italiane”).

Besides provoking discussion among its supporters, the School of Restoration, created and developed to supportthe rediscovery and promotion of the Italian motorcycle and automotive tradition of the 1900s, is an initiativethat forms part of the inter-regional project “Motor Valley.” It is sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Industrial Activities, promoted by the Region of Emilia-Romagna and implemented in collaboration with the Province of Bologna. The Ducati Foundation: a passion for values.

Experimenting with passion.

“Fisica in Moto” is the didactic interactive physics laboratory created by the Ducati Foundation in collaboration with the Malpighi High Schoolof Bologna. A real bridge between schools and the world of work, itrepresents an advanced training experience that is at the same time very enjoyable, as visitors are given the chance to carry out interesting and fun scientifi c experiments.Based inside the Ducati factory and entirely dedicated to students of middle/high school age who are taking scientifi c subjects, Fisica in Moto is composed of three different rooms that lead visitors through the lawsof dynamics relative to translation and rotation. The fi rst room reproduces workbenches, as found in a real Ducati workshop; the second room con-tains a series of large interactive experiments that highlight fundamentalphysics and the laws of dynamics. The third and fi nal room invitesstudents to take part in a Moto GP of physics, by applying the conceptsthey have learned along the way. In this context, Newton’s laws, impulsetheory, and angular momentum are no longer abstract concepts but are demonstrated through the experiments and through refl ection on nature as well as in the greatness of physics at play. The didactic experimental strategy introduces students to the concepts of physics so as to guidethem towards the construction of conceptual models. Fisica in Moto: scientifi c passion.

The Ducati 100 and 125 Gran Sport are milestones in the history of Ducati, and they are among the earliestexamples of sports triumphs and commercial successes of the company. In fact, it was with the Gran Sportthat Ducati increased it’s victories in races and became synonymous with reliability. The Gran Sport were designed to participate in long distance races like the Giro d’Italia and the Milano-Taranto which crossed thousands of grueling kilometers and where no one ever stopped because of a mechanical failure. Another merit of the GranSport is that from the primary project of the engineer Fabio Taglioni, the living symbol of the motorcycle house, were derived the desmodromiche 125, the Grand Prix motorcycles of the time. The desmodromica distributionsystem was used for the fi rst time on the 125, and to this day is a corner stone of Ducati. It’s exclusive mechanics distinguish it from rest of the competition around the world, and makes it a leader forit’s refi ned technical aspects. Giuliano Mazzuoli wanted to remember this piece of history by designing a penin the Offi cina line and calling it the 125 Gran Sport. As always, the pen is made in aluminum and it takes itsinspiration from the air cooling wings that are typical on the racing motorcycles of Borgo Panigale, and have aknurled fi nish just like the motorcycles of the time. The pen is available in anodized red and super matt chromein two functions: ball point pen with Easy Flow system and a 0.7 mm pencil.

A collection of pens called “aPPens: the writing tools with applications” was extracted from the new Mazzuoli Writing Tools catalog.

What is it?

We wanted to enhance our products so as to bring them closer to a youngeraudience (young people are less likely to purchase writing instruments to-day), and make products that communicate to people in the same language they are used to.

The line consists of a series of multi-function, hyper-accessorized Pens that are rich in multiple applications that are particularly attractive to a young and dynamic audience.

The pens come in captivating new packaging where the various functions are clearly indicated through icons like those found on Macs and smartphones. This modern method provides a new opportunity to propose Pens forsomeone’s own personal use or to purchase them as a gift for someone else.

What do bicycles have to do with pens? Nothing. There is only a memory that makes me feel aparticular bond with the Offi cina line (“offi cina” in Italian means mechanical workshop).

The picture is from 1923 and the little girl in the picture is my mother. My grandfather Renatohad a mechanical workshop with lathes and cutters with which he built handcrafted bicycles.

At the beginning of the 1950s, with the advent of motorcycles in a hilly terrain like ours, the activity became obsolete and ended. A few years later, when I was about ten years old, I found and kept anold wooden box with metal objects that had a strange form. For someyears afterwards it was a treasure that I tried keeping secret.

In November 1999 I found myself in a modern mechanical workshop and while I was looking around I saw the same objects. Forty yearslater they still fascinated me with their beautiful shapes and I wantedto let others appreciate them not as mechanical tools and so “Offi cina,Writing Instruments” were born.

In 1930 Renato Bacci participated in a famous Italian bicycle race as a mechanic for an important team of the time.

To commemorate the event 80 years later, Giuliano Mazzuoli (Renato’s nephew) introduces the Stelvio pen. The Stelvio is a ball point pen that can be converted into a 0.7 mm pencil.

Why Stelvio? For all professional or amateur cyclists this marvelous mountaintrail is a point of reference. It’s the guru of cycling, and the road to take your bike

on at least once in your life.

The pen is inspired from the aluminum bodies of racingbicycles. It’s thin, light, and easy to handle. With an EASY FLOW refi ll it becomes a true “racing pen” or it can be easily trasformed into a 0.7 mm pencil.

The various colors represent the jerseys worn by cyclists in the famous cycling race: pink, mauve, green, blue, red, black, and rainbow.

The pen can also be personalized in an infi nite number of ways thanks to the 15 colored rubber rings that decorate it. With the Stelvio, your bike is at “hand’s reach.”

The Cassia is a road that is like a work of art. It’s a road that has itsorigins in the distant 154 B.C., the year that the Via Cassia wasfounded, and it celebrates and represents our culture. It begins in Rome at the Milvian Bridge and it goes all the way to Florence fi nishing on the Ponte Vecchio, crossing places like the Bolsena Lake, the Crete Senesi, the Val d’Orcia, and Chianti, which makes Italy well-known throughout the world. With the Cassia 264 we wanted to pay tribute to this beautiful road where Giuliano Mazzuoli’s grandfather had his bicycle workshop in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa at km 264 (there are infact 264 kilometers to Rome and 36 km to Florence).

Cassia 264 is an Italian pen with an unmistakeable style that brings us back to the era of Italian Modernism. The primary material is aluminum. The ergonomic grip, the elegant but rigorous styling with a decoration at the top make this pen a symbol of Italian style.

MOKA

mokinamokiMMMMWith the Offi cina line of pens I attracted the attention of the most important people in the world of pens. Part of the success of those pens is also due to the country I come from. It is because I am Italian and I am part of the most important design culture in the world that I had to present a new pen. I thought it was impossible, but it all happened during a telephone call.

I was doodling with my pencil when I interrupted my telephone call and said, “sorry but I have to go … I designed my new pen.” I onlyrealized it was the coffee-maker only after I had drawn it. The inspi-ration came at the right time because even in this pen there is amemory from my youth.

The so-called “American kitchens” hadn’t become popular yet inItaly. In my grandmother’s huge but minimally decorated kitchenthere were four or fi ve different size espresso-makers hanging on awall above a shelf. They were the only decorative objects in the kitchen and I had never seen my grandmother make coffee with them. She polished them everyday. This was in the 1950s, the time in whichthe Moka, designed and produced by Alfonso Bialetti in 1930, started to become well known all over the world. It reached places in the world where uses and customs regarding beverages were completely different from ours and it was used as a decorative accessory just likemy grandmother had done. I too see in this everyday object made upof two containers that screw into each other a masterpiece of design. Nothing is more diffi cult to design than simplicity and I wanted to commemorate this more than seventy year-old jewel in a writinginstrument.
