• Project Scope = Create a Prototype • Demonstrate Feasibility/Provide a
Deliverable (“Starting Point”)• WNV Data
NEDSS GIS Requirements
From the CDC….• Privacy, Confidentiality & Security• Geocoding• Spatial Analysis• Visualization• Technical Standards• Creating Maps/Data Export• NEDSS Base System & GIS
Architecture
A PHIN GIS Platform
PHIN GIS Features/Functionality:• Data Input• Geocoding• Data Visualization• Geospatial Analysis• Integration with NEDSS & SAS
Tools
Deliverables to DoIT
• Geodata Entry Report– Completed
• Geospatial Analysis Tools (Web-based)– Completed
• Geospatial Data Visualization– In progress
Goal of site
• Prototype to demonstrate capabilities of web mapping to a non-GIS audience– Identifying features– Querying features– Finding features
• Not intended for definitive analysis of West Nile data
Specifications
• Windows 2000 Server• Oracle 9i• ArcSDE 8.3• ArcIMS 4.1

Lessons learned
• There is a need for Statewide coordination for the implementation of a geocoding system– Rural vs Urban Areas
• Data returned is only as good as data entered– Database needs to be structured to accept GIS parameters
• Street Address• GPS Coordinates• PLSS reference
– Correct data entry procedures need to be followed to obtain accurate results
