Professor Assessor (about 30 minutes)
• Professor Assessor is really important because it gives your teachers and TAs, as well as yourselves and your parents, the chance to analyse your learning and to track your progress.
• Well done to everyone who completed the Fractions Test I set last week!
• This week, I have set you a Home Learning activity on Addition and Subtraction, to follow up last week’s work.
• Please log in and have a go – you only have one week to complete this!
• You were sent home with your login details in your home learning packs. To access the site, please click on the link: https://www.prof123.co.uk/Start. The school code is: BRN
Mathletics (about 30 minutes)
• Just like Professor Assessor, Mathletics is really important because it gives your teachers and TAs, as well as yourselves and your parents, the chance to analyse your learning and to track your progress.
• Well done to those of you that completed the Fractions work!
• This week, I have set you some work on Addition and Subtraction to do. Please log in and have a go!
Introduction
• This week, we are going to revise Multiplication and Division. We will: – recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8
multiplication tables; – write and calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and
division using the multiplication tables that you know, including for two-digit numbers times one-digit numbers, using mental and progressing to formal written methods;
– solve problems, including missing number problems, involving multiplication and division.
• Each week, I will also set you a Mental Maths worksheet, (choose a sheet)
as well as some problem solving to do!
• I’d also like you to spend some time each week on Professor Assessor and Mathletics. This might be revising topics we have already covered, work on our current topics, or times tables practise. I will set you tasks or assessments each week to complete.
Task 1: (20 minutes) Mental Maths! Easier Sheet (See next page for Challenge Sheet – choose which one you’d like to do!)

Use your addition skills to fill in the missing
numbers. Each missing number is a
number between 1 and
12.

Mental Multiplication
How to multiply in your head: • What is 6 x 40? • 6 x 40 is equal to 6 x 4 x 10 • 6 x 4 is equal to 6 x 2 x 2 • 6 x 2 x 2 = 24 • 24 x 10 = 240 • This means 6 x 40 = 240 • Break down the calculation as much as you need
to. If you know 6 x 4 = 24, you don't have to break it down into 6 x 2 x 2.

Short Multiplication
How to multiply a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number: • When multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number you
can use both mental and written methods. • Let's take a look at an example of solving a multiplication
problem in your head. Before you press play on the below video, have a think about how you would work out 19 x 5?
Short Multiplication
• Find out more about multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number using a written method with this interactive guide.
• Once you've opened it, you can use the Next button on the bottom right-hand side of the screen to work your way through each page.

Division with Remainders
• Sometimes, when you do a division, there will be a number left over. This is called the 'remainder'.
• 7 ÷ 2 = 3 r1.
• You may need to round up or round down, to make a whole number.
Division with Remainders
• Watch this short video and do the quiz below it:
Short Division
• If numbers are too difficult to divide in your head, use a written method.
• Short division will sometimes give an answer with a remainder (r), which you can round up or round down.
• To find the answer to 365 ÷ 7 see if 3 (the hundreds) can be divided by 7.
• It cannot, so add the tens digit. 36 ÷ 7 = 5 r 1. • Write down the 5 and carry over the 1 so 5 becomes 15. • 15 ÷ 7 = 2 r 1. • Write those numbers down. The answer is 52 r 1.

Rounding Numbers
• Rounding to the nearest 10 • To round a number to the nearest 10, look at the
units digit. If the units digit is 5 or more, round up. If the units digit is 4 or less, round down.
• The last digit in 356 is 6. So we round it up to 360. • The last digit of 352 is 2. So we round it down to
350. • 475 ends in a 5. We always round a 5 up. So 475
rounds up to 480.
Rounding Numbers
How to add and subtract in your head: Rounding numbers • Rounding numbers to the nearest 1, 10 or 100
can help with lots of mental maths problems. • To add 9 to another number, add 10 and then
subtract 1: 36 + 9 = 36 + 10 - 1 = 45 • To add 18 to another number, add 20 and then
subtract 2: 48 + 18 = 48 + 20 - 2 = 66 • To add 97 to another number, add 100 and then
subtract 3: 439 + 97 = 439 + 100 - 3 = 536
Place value
• We use place value headings like 1, 10, 100, and 1000.
• These help us do sums and see which numbers are bigger than others.
• A number is made of one or more digits.
• The number 6379, for example, is made of the digits 6, 3, 7 and 9.
• 6 thousands, 3 hundreds, 7 tens and 9 ones.
Place value
• Watch this short video to help you revise place value (it’s very funny!), then do the three check activities and the quiz afterwards:
Rounding Numbers
• Rounding to the nearest 100
• To round a number to the nearest 100, look at the tens digit. If the tens digit is 5 or more, round up. If the tens digit is 4 or less, round down.
• The tens digit in 3281 is 8. So we round it up to 3300.
• The tens digit of 3216 is 1. So we round it down to 3200
Rounding Numbers
• Rounding to the nearest 1000
• To round a number to the nearest 1000, look at the hundreds digit. If the hundreds digit is 5 or more, round up. If the hundreds digit is 4 or less, round down.
• The hundreds digit in 4559 is 5. So we round it up to 5000.
• The hundreds digit of 4295 is 2. So we round it down to 4000.

• 10 x 5 = 50.
• E.g. How many legs on 11 dogs? • 4 x 11 = 44.
