Gingerbread is a sweet holiday tradition that can’t be beat! Your whole family can have fun making our yummy cookies, and the cross stitch design will be charming on a variety of holiday accessories.

We used the design to accent a pot holder and gift tag to accompany a batch of decorated gingerbread cookies, but you could use it for any project of your choice. Just let your imagination run, run, run—like the gingerbread man of fairy-tale fame!

Note: Both projects were stitched using 3 strands of floss for Cross Stitch and 1 for Backstitch and French Knots.

Pot Holder: The design was centered and stitched on the White Aida (14 count) stitching area of a White Kitchen Classic pot holder. Alternative Finishing: Stitch the design on any evenweave fabric and make a pocket on a ready-made pot holder or one that you sew from scratch.

Gift Tag: The gingerbread girl was stitched separately on a 6" square of Antique Brown Perforated Plastic (14 count). To finish gift tag, trim plastic close to design. Referring to photo, add buttons as desired. Glue design to a piece of cardstock, cutting cardstock ¼" larger than design. For tie, punch a hole through the cardstock at the top of the design and thread with desired ribbon. Alternative Finishing: Instead of using perforated plastic, stitch the design on any evenweave fabric, trim edges close to design, and coat with a commercial stiffener to prevent fraying.

Design by Deborah Lambein.
