#GilletteSalutes Campaign Celebrates 50 years of National Service On the 50 th anniversary of NS, Gillette kicks off a year-long campaign to recognize national servicemen for their commitment to the nation’s defence SINGAPORE, May 3, 2017 Gillette, the world’s leading male grooming brand and a flagship brand of Procter & Gamble (P&G), today embarked on a year-long campaign to recognise and thank generations of National Servicemen for their dedication and contributions to Singapore’s defence. The campaign, “#GilletteSalutes the NSman in You”, is the first in a series of initiatives lined up to celebrate NS50 the 50 th anniversary of National Service this year just as P&G celebrates its 30 th year of calling Singapore home. The #GilletteSalutes campaign kicked off today with a launch event to unveil a National Service tribute short film Gillette Salutes the NSman in You, directed by Jack Neo, award-winning Singaporean filmmaker of hit local film franchise “Ah Boys to Men”. This video celebrates the dedication and hard work of Singapore’s defenders, who are groomed to Shield the Nation. The launch was fittingly held at CM-PB at Dempsey, home to the Ministry of Defence's Central Manpower Base from 1972 to 1989, where National Service enlistees were inducted into the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). Gillette also announced ten island wide in-store roadshows from May to July, where customers will be able to purchase Gillette’s best razor to date, the Gillette Fusion ProShield – at 50 percent off, the ability to personalize their razors with 10 different NS50-inspired designs on-site at the roadshows. From 19-21 May will also be the mega roadshow that will be held at Plaza Singapura, where members of the public can experience firsthand what NSmen undergo as part of their Individual Physical Proficiency Test. Anyone can test their fitness in the Shield Obstacle Mission Challenge, a military-inspired obstacle course. As part of P&G’s 30 th anniversary and NS50 celebrations, the Gillette Salutes campaign will wrap with P&G hosting the SAF Day Combined Rededication Ceremony 2017 for the Central Business District & South Zones on SAF Day (30 June, Friday), where employers and active Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) alike are encouraged to affirm their support and dedication to the Total Defence of Singapore. Ong Yuh Hwang, Managing Director of P&G Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, said, NS50 is a timely recognition of the SAF’s role in defending our country.
