Garment Narrative Description:

Baten by Chroma, is a sleek and modern interpretation of the traditional blazer. Crafted in a crepe

polyester and viscose fabric. The blazer is fitted with darts on the front seams and the back. The garment

features a yoke that is extenuated with a contrasting color block that extends to the back. The upper portion

of the tailored collar is also contrasted and the lapel extends to the hem of the garment.

Fitting Ease

The reference garment has the appropriate ease required. However, to allow more functional ease for more comfortable movement by the wearer, a few adjustments are required. The waist and the armsyce require additional functional ease.The armsyce is a bit snugas well as the waistline.

SetOverall, the garment has a very smooth set with few to no wrinkles. The main problem is the horizontal wrinkles that can be seen on the front bodice near the button closure and waistline. The back bodice has a few loose vertical wrinkles that can be �xed by adding the color blocking yoke for the �nal garment. (Needs to be pressed)

BalanceThe garment is very well balanced. The garment is evenly balanced meaning that it is on grain for all of the parts. The �nal garment will also be symmetrically balanced in the aesthetic �eld. For aesthetic reasons, however, the bottom hem will be shortened by 4 1/2”

Armhole – In order to allow more comfortable movement, the armhole should be dropped 1”. Bottom Hem – For aesthetic purposes, the bottom hem will be shortened by 4 1/2”.Waistline – The waistline should be increased by a total of 1”. This is to reduce the visibility of diagonal wrinkles and to allow the wearer to have more comfort while the body is in movement.

Quality Overall, the garment was made with very good quality. All the seams are well hidden inside the lining and there are no loose threads or frays. The seams are very straight and seam allowance seems to be consistent throughout the whole garment. The 205 stitch is used to allow the peak collar to be attached with the lapel. This is a very good idea to create a stable collar that will remain intact even if the garment is washed. The collar in the reference garment is also well set and evenly stitched. The stitch type and seams used are ideal for this type of garment. The fabric is also on grain and the quality of the fabric used is good. I would require the Baten jacket by Chroma to be made using a crepe fabric instead. The thread is also even in tension. On the negative aspects, the lining was too large and a smaller more fitted lining is recommended. The armsyce uses a 301 lockstitch, a 516 is recommended to increase the durability of the final product. SPI: The SPI seems to be consistent overall. The SPI for the final product should be set higher at 10-12 Stitching Quality: Overall, the stitching quality is very good. The seams are very even, straight, and have good tension for the product. The top stitching in the lining is a little unprofessional because it is the back side of the 301 stitch type. It is recommended that the top stitching in these cases be made with the front of the stitch on the face of the fabric. It is also recommended to use 10-12 SPI to make the garment stronger. Retail Price Justification: Originally, the garment retailed at $59.95, however, it was purchased on sale at $20.00. The original price is a bit high considering that the lining fabric does not seem to be of very good quality and will probably rip due to seam tension fairly quickly. However, the fit model has not had any trouble with the garment and it seems to be holding its shape. The garment does not have any seam slippage or breakage as of yet. I believe that the original retail price is justified because of the detail that is put in the garment. There many shaping methods that allow the garment to have superior fit. The collar is set evenly and very well balanced. The garment does not pull to the right or left. The fabric is a good choice, however, it is not of superior quality. It is also important to note that the garment has many additional details, which will not be included in the final product, such as pocket flaps, coat hanging tag, and darts. This all adds to the final price of the garment. The aesthetic is also very nice and flattering to the consumer. The fit model

has worn this garment 5 times already so the cost per wear is currently at $12.00. The price is justified at $59.95, however, at $20.00 it is a total bargain.
