Look at your neighbor and say, “I’ve got so much to thank God for!” Regardless of your current station or status, all of us have a reason and a right to thank God. We should thank Him for His excellent greatness and His loving kindness. We should thank Him because He helps us and holds us. We should thank Him because he delivers us and directs us. It is because of the Lord that we move, live, and have our being and as a result of this, we

should be thanking God every chance we get.

God has done more for us than our small , feeble minds could even attempt to re-member or recall. God has given us things we don't deserve, jobs we weren’t quite qualified for, eased our emotional distress, and kept us safe in His arms. This is why it is important that we honor God with real, true, genuine praise and worship.

During the Thanksgiving Season, we naturally get into a mood of thankfulness and adopt a spirit of giving. However, I want to encourage you to not only continue but embody a thankful attitude and a giving spirit throughout the year. It may sound like a cliché but truly, “the more you give, the more God gives to you.” Let’s do more than give to others and have expressions of gratitude during the holiday season. Starting now, I dare you to be the believer who gives to God and others as well as offering expressions of gratitude through-out the year.

In case you missed it...

If you had to choose

one thing about Sunday service that touched you the most what would it be? For some, it’s the camarade-rie of fellowship, or the powerful Word spoken at each service, and for others it’s the songs from the choir that help them through the week.

One of the many goals of the Music Ministry at new Gideon as noted by the cur-rent Minister of Music, Kebba Ellis, is to transcend from “just singing praise and worship to living a life of praise and worship.” By lifting a collective voice and singing praises to God, the hope is that hearts connect and spirits are healed; that you not see a choir stand full of people but feel the Spirit deliver the Word

through song. Currently, the Music

Ministry offers a variety of traditional & contemporary gospel music. With differ-ent styles, the aim is to reach all where they are in Christ, by reminiscing on old foot-stomping favorites and introducing new kinds of smooth gospel grooves– all to tickle your spiritual fancy. A listing includes the Youth Choir, Young Adult Choir, Praise Team, Mass Choir and Men’s Choir (5th Sun-day).

In light of growth and new direction, Ms. Odeather Wooders believes balance is key: “There is nothing wrong with the new stuff, but you know sometimes we need to do old stuff to keep everybody included in the service.”

Sharing her 35 years of choir history, she remembers a time when ‘we only had two choirs –Senior & Children’s Choir” and that ‘church started at 7:30am’ – whew, now that’s early! Although the times may change, the leadership may change, the songs may even change, what remains the same is the Spirit of worship and praise through song. What really happened in the Lion’s Den?

You all remember Daniel don’t you? The highlight of Daniel’s testimony is that he was thrown into a den of lions all because of his faith in God, and because he believed, God made sure that no harm came to him during his stay. Well let’s just say I felt a little like Daniel having to cover the Men’s Monday Night Football Fellowship, but thank God I made it out alive! All kidding aside, the Men’s Ministry held their first Monday night football fellowship on October 12th in the Life Center. The purpose of this gathering was to, of course, watch football, but also to get to know those who are new to the ministry as well as renew the bonds of the veteran mem-bers. The Fellowship Hall seemed to take on the appearance of a “Man Cave” because when I walked in there were a little over 20 men staring at the flat-screen television. The refreshments were also “manly” —sandwiches, chicken, chips, and non-alcoholic bev-erages —what more could a man ask for? As I wandered around trying as best I could to “blend in the background”, my cover was blown. Minister Milton Davis reminded me that even though I was dressed like them (jeans & t-shirt), I was still FEMALE and this was a MEN’S ministry function. Whew! I’m glad he wasn’t really a lion! This event was pure, male camaraderie at it’s finest. There was no talk of church business, wives, children , or work. Any words spoken or concentration spent was focused on the game—the game of football. Kurt King, NGBC Deacon, expressed his feelings about the event, “I really enjoyed it and I look forward to the next outing. I am sure that this will allow the men of NGBC to co-exist together in both a spiritual and recreational setting.”

Senior Saint’s Sunday

New Gideon held its first celebration honoring its Senior members on October 11, 2009 during the 8 o’clock service. The pro-gram’s served as an appreciation of those whose blood, sweat and tears helped to pave the way for the church of tomorrow. The service was catered to invoke the memories of years past from the choir marching in to open service to the message brought forth by Pastor Morris Jackson. Sister Helen Joshua had this to say about the program, “I was deeply moved by the service and how beautiful and spiritual everything was. We can have church like that anytime!” Although this was the first celebration for the Senior Saints, it certainly won’t be the last. ~Crystal Knight, Staff Reporter

Getting to know people can be hard no matter the size of the group, but just release your fear, for the Trumpet is here! Sit back and relax and get to know New Gideon!

Sam is the newest addition to the Music Ministry having only been with us for a month. He is a native of Natchez, Mississippi, and he enjoys music, shopping, traveling, weightlifting, and reading. When asked his favorite scripture, he offered up a very familiar passage, Romans 8:38-39 “38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything

else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Ms. Audrey has been a member of New Gideon for the past two years , and she is a native of Addis, Louisiana. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, music, reading, traveling, and spending time with children. One of her favorite scriptures is Psalm34.

I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

2 My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; The humble shall hear of it and be glad.

3 Oh, magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together.

Minister Green has been a member of our family for a year now and has been work-ing diligently in ministry ever since; he is currently the Extreme Fun coordinator and oversees several youth ministries. When he has free time, Kedric enjoys football, mov-ies, skating, and eating good food! As for his favorite scripture, it’s 2Chronicles 7:14, 14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and

will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Season your prayers...with Thanksgiving! A L I T T L E P E R S P E C T I V E . . .

Okay, we’ve heard a lot of droopy prayers in our lives. Hey, we’ve prayed a lot of them, too.

• Prayers of desperation -- ‘Oh God, you've got to help me!” • Prayers of self-pity -- “God, things are so awful!” • Prayers of resignation -- “God, if you want to leave me unemployed, then I can't stop you!” But we should learn how to pray a different kind of prayer -- prayer said with thanksgiving. Witness Paul who, writing from prison, taught a most powerful lesson. He said,

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."1

Don’t you find it strange? Here’s Paul suffering himself, yet he's telling us to pray with thanks-giving.

Thanksgiving is the seasoning that makes our prayers edible to God. After all, who wants to hear people whine all the time? It should be evident that you can't whine and give thanks in the same breath. Self-pity and thankfulness don't mix any better than oil and water.

In fact, injecting your prayer with thanks changes it somehow. When we think back on what God has done for us in the past and think about who He is in the present -- and express that in thankfulness -- our prayers are transformed into prayers that are more gentle and more trust-ing. Thankful prayers are offered up with faith. And faith is an essential ingredient for prayers that God chooses to answer.

Take a moment to remember the Pilgrims on Thanksgiving Day, not so much for their historic feast, but for the sheer faith that inspired them to give thanks in a year that saw nearly half their number die of sickness. Yet they prayed with thanksgiving.

When your annual day of feasting is over, you may be slow to help yourself to extra helpings of dressing, mashed potatoes, and sweet potato pie. But if you can hang on to the "thanks" part of Thanksgiving, you'll be a different person. Because when you learn to talk to God about your needs -- mixed with a healthy dose of heartfelt thanks -- then you have bridged the gap from whining at God to genuine prayer.
