European Energy Award (eea)
A quality management system for local energy policy implementation
§ Based on Swiss “Energy City” Label (since 1996, 600 municipalities)
§ Since 2002: eea, programme in 7 countries, pilot activities in 11 countries
§ ≈ 1’000 active municipalities ≈ 500 awarded municipalities, 25 Mio Inh.
§ Identical catalogue of measures, country specific indicators and values
§ Municipalities with best practices are awarded with „European Energy Award“ in Gold

• Ongoing evaluation during the planning process as well as in the operation phase

Requirements for a certification § The local authority where the site is located must be
«Energiestadt» or EEA city § There is a need for a responsible body § The site needs in minimum two buildings with an exterior
area, connecting the buildings § There is a clearly defined spatial perimeter § The future site needs to have ist own identity or to
establish a new one § A minimum of a total of 10'000 m2 floor area is required § Sites with mixed uses, mainly dwellings and offices are in
the focus § Maximum of 20% Retrofit floor area on the site
