COURSE DESCRIPTION The use of ultrasound, including 2-D, 3-D, 4-D, and Doppler, continues to expand for the evaluation of the obstetrical and gynecologic patient as improvements are made in these modalities. In addition, new prenatal tests are available that add to the armamentarium for assessing the obstetrical patient. Practitioners may find it challenging to keep up to date with ultrasound imaging capabilities and practices. This advanced sonography course will provide obstetrical and gynecologic ultrasound practitioners with insights and new ultrasound skills for the screening, diagnosis, and management of the gynecologic and obstetrical patients. Faculty will present in-depth material on first trimester ultrasound, fetal abnormalities, fetal growth disturbances, uterine and endometrial pathologies, ovarian masses, and endometriosis.

KEY TOPICS• Mistakes to avoid in the first trimester• Update on ectopic pregnancy• Anatomy of the fetus in the first trimester• Fetal umbilical artery and middle cerebral artery Doppler• Fetal echocardiography• Prenatal assessment for aneuploidy• The umbilical cord and placenta• Ultrasound of abnormal uterine bleeding• Deep infiltrating endometriosis• Sonohysterography and HyCoSy to assess tubal patency

LEARNING OBJECTIVESUpon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:• Develop strategies to utilize ultrasound equipment

appropriately• Formulate more accurate diagnoses with ultrasound• Incorporate recommendations for use of Doppler in the

assessment of IUGR• Incorporate conclusions of the first trimester consensus

conference for diagnosing miscarriage (2013) into their practice to avoid making mistakes in diagnosis of early pregnancy failure

• Utilize ultrasound for guiding sonohysterography and HyCoSy for assessing women with infertility

• Use middle cerebral artery Doppler to assess fetal well being

TARGET AUDIENCEThe course is directed to obstetrician/gynecologists, radio- logists, and other physicians whose scope of practice includes ultrasound, as well as sonographers.
