• Issues:– Faculty: stretched too thin
• Teaching
• Mentoring
• Scholarship
– Faculty: “’tag” you’re the hepatologist
– Fellows:
• cross coverage disruptive to research, electives, etc.
• Major Threat: Lose faculty.
2007-2013 MEDIUM program
9 fellows, now 11 faculty
• Issues:– Very few!
– Encouraging scholarship among clinical faculty
– Faculty participation in assessment process
• Major Threat: justify existence (funding cuts to 9 fellows; program mission)
Upstate New York, ~ 1 million catchment, only University in region, a 1 hospital program, 800 beds, Liver Tx program, on and off site office visits/endo suites.
