GHS CLASSIFICATION ONLINE

Registration: Click on “Register”

Registration: Enter a username and password

Identify the substance

And select the physical state

To identify the substance use: -CAS number or

- SMILES / InChi notation or -Chemical name or

- EC number or -Draw the structure

Example: Drawing the structure

In case the criteria used to identify the substance, does not produce any result, please, enter a valid

SMILES notation.

Once the substance is recognised by the system, the structure will be shown on the screen.

In order to proceed with the payment, it is required to select the languages in which the Safety Data

Sheet(s) and Label(s) will be generated.

In order to generate the corresponding invoice, the following details are required:

In order to proceed with the payment, click on “Continue”:

Online payment portal

Once the payment is successful, the invoice can be downloaded and the following screen

on the substance will be shown:

The following information will be provided:

- Experimental data from bibliography

The following information will be provided:

-Calculated parameters: Environmental fate

The following information will be provided:

-Calculated parameters: Physical Chemical Properties

Click on “Continue”

In case the substance is included in the list of harmonised classification and labelling

(CLP Regulation):

Click on “Continue”

Select the supplemental hazard information in case it is applicable:

and Click on “Select”

Transport of Dangerous Goods: In case the substance has been assigned a specific UN number in the Regulation, this number must be provided by the

user (e.g., Toluene UN number 1294)

Click on “Submit” or “No data available” as applicable

Transport of Dangerous Goods: In case the substance has not been assigned a specific UN number in the Regulation and the user does not know the UN number for the applicable collective entry (e.g., Flammable liquid, UN number 1993), the applicable collective entries will be provided to the user.

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD – AQUATIC ENVIRONMENT:

In case the user has no data, the system will provide with the worst experimental value (bibliography). If no experimental data are

available, a calculated value will be used (based on international accepted tools).

The following information is provided: Value / Type (experimental or calculated) / Species / Source

In case the user has own data, the values will be included in the corresponding fields.

In order to check all the available data for a specific endpoint (experimental and / or

calculated), click on values

In case no data is available, the field is marked in red.

Once the data have been included, click on “Submit”.

A decision tree is shown to justify the classification for the substance.

Click on “Continue”.

In this case, the conclusion is that the substance is not classified as hazardous to the aquatic environment.

Hazardous to the ozone layer: in case the substance is classified according to the EU legislation, the CAS

number and name will be highlighted in the list.

Explosive properties: two cases: CASE 1.- The user has no data or classification available:

Click “NO”

PHYSICAL HAZARDS:

The system will conduct a screening to find out if the substance contains chemical groups which indicate explosive properties.

Example: toluene:

Explosive properties: two cases: CASE 2.- The user has data or classification available:

Click “YES”

The system will show a screen with the different classifications and the user will select the appropriate option based on the available data.

Flammability properties: Example: since the substance is classified under the harmonised list of classification and labelling (CLP

Regulation), the system will take this information into account:

Pyrophoric properties: Example: toluene: No data available. Click on “NO”

Pyrophoric properties: Example: toluene: Based on the experience, it is known that the substance is stable at

room temperature for prolonged periods of time. Therefore, classification is not required. Click on “YES”.

Pyrophoric properties: Example: toluene: Based on the experience, it is known that the substance is stable at

room temperature for prolonged periods of time. Click on “YES”.

Pyrophoric properties: Example: toluene: The substance is not a pyrophoric liquid.

Click on “Continue”.

The system will show screens for each of the physical hazards defined in the CLP Regulation

HEALTH HAZARDS:

Acute toxicity: two cases: CASE 1.- The user has no data or classification available:

Click “NO”

HEALTH HAZARDS:

Acute toxicity: two cases: CASE 2.- The user has data available:

Click “YES”

A screen is shown to include the available information on acute toxicity for the different routes (oral, dermal and / or inhalation):

The system will show a screen and the applicable classification will be highlighted.

Example: toluene: Not classified

Aspiration hazard: Example: since the substance is classified under the harmonised list of classification and labelling (CLP

Regulation), the system will take this information into account:

Specific target organ toxicity – repeated exposure: Example: the substance is classified under the harmonised list of

classification and labelling (CLP Regulation). A minimum classification is established in the Regulation.

Two cases:

CASE 1.- The user has no data. The system will apply the minimum classification (Category 2) as established by the Regulation.

Click “NO”

CASE 2.- The user has data to classify the substance in a more severe category. The system will classify according to the data

provided by the user. Click “YES”

CASE 2.- The user has data to classify the substance in a more severe category.

The system will show screens for each of the health hazards defined in the CLP Regulation

In order to include in the Safety Data Sheet the classification according to Annex I of Directive 67/548/EEC, the system will

ask for the identification of the substance:

CLASSIFICATION UNDER DIRECTIVE 67/548/EEC

CLASSIFICATION UNDER DIRECTIVE 67/548/EEC

The classification will be shown to the user:

INFORMATION TO COMPLETE THE SAFETY DATA SHEET

The user will select information to complete the different sections of the Safety Data Sheet:
