Ghana will soon enter a new era as an oil exporter. It’s keen to avoid Nigeria’s mistakes.

The discovery of significant offshore oil reserves

has excited the whole of Ghana, as well as nearby

countries that share a similar geology.

Ghana will soon enter a new era as an oil exporter,

but it is keen to avoid the mistakes that have

turned neighbouring Nigeria into a byword for

corruption, mismanagement, and ethnic tension.

Despite this, Ghana’s main political parties are

already embroiled in corruption allegations as they

fight for control of what will become the country’s

most important source of revenue.

The weekly Ghana Politics & Security, written in

country, provides expert analysis on both current

and forthcoming issues. It covers domestic politics,

foreign affairs, and the economy, and concen-

trates on the issues likely to affect international

oil companies and other foreign investors.
