He trained many youths in the shawl weaving including his sons. His three sons have won National Awards. He received National Award in 2007.

He receives the Sant Kabir Award for his invaluable contribution towards development of handlooms.

Pashmina Kani Stole is a length of intricately woven wrap with pashmina yarn. “pashm”, the wool is obtained from under the fleece of Asian mountain goat. Kani refers to the wooden spool also known as “tujis” or “tillis”. The coloured design is inserted in to the body through the coded chart called “talim”. Talim decodes the horizontal insertion of weft and specifies number of warp yarns to be picked up for the coloured spool insertion. Each time the colour changes, yarn on the spool is interlocked for the progress of design.

The design inspiration for this stole is paisley decorated in calligraphy. The calligraphy woven is famous saying i.e“Agar Firdous Baroye zamin ast ham-i-asto ham –e-asto”( if there is paradise on earth, it’s here, it’s here).

Shri Ram Lal Maurya S/o Late Shri Bhola Nath was born on 06.11.1953. He is a resident of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh state. He is a hereditary weaver. He has been practising Jamdani weaving for 35 years. He has got very good skills in Jamdani and Banarasi brocade weaving. He encouraged the younger generation to adopt handloom weaving. He trained 60 persons in this craft. He has won National Award in 1994.

He receives the Sant Kabir Award for his invaluable contribution towards development of handlooms.

Jamdani traditionally woven in Bengal and some parts of northern and southern India is considered to be one of the finest products to emerge from the loom. For designs, the warp is lifted and extra weft is inserted by fingers with the help of tillis. This is followed by ground pick. This technique results in opaque designs on semi-transparent background.

Pure silk and pure gold zari yarns are used to make this Raktambari saree. The design pattern is inspired by floral pattern. In the body, floral diagonal motifs are woven with small and big motifs in between. The diagonal “bel” and big buti are woven with gold zari whereas small motif is woven with silver zari. In the pallu, traditional konia with kairi motif is woven. The border of the saree is woven with paisley and flower motifs in zigzag style. This is in continuity with the revival of Nilambari Jamdani saree done during Viswakarma exhibition.

The colour used to dye the yarn was extracted from the nature.

The Ikat technique involves tying and dyeing of yarn according to the design before put on the loom for weaving. The tie & dye designs used in Odisha are very fine and intricate. This demands high degree of skills from the weaver to weave this intricate pattern.
