to be seen on the GFC mobile unit. He had a

serious family history of high blood pressure and its complications. For

several years he has been taking medications to

lower his own high blood pressure. He had not

quite run out of medicines but wanted to make sure that he would not be left without treatments that might cause him to have problems like his family members. We provided

refills and asked about his living situation. He said that he was pleased to

In preparation of our planning session, we counted up our services and the number of persons we serve. GFC continues to be a major provider of medical and dental care to the poor in Indianapolis. Last year, we saw about 3200 unique patients throughout our different services. There were

approximately 9000 patient encounters altogether counting days in our HRP. This amounts to about $100 per patient encounter which makes our organization an extremely efficient and cost effective service for the poor and uninsured. We are very proud of our staff who run such a “tight ship.”

“I have always thought of Christmastime, when it has come round...as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not

another race of creatures bound on other journeys.” ― Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

GFC News…. GFC was highlighted as an effective healthcare service in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette with an article. See the following link: http://www.post-gazette.com/news/health/2014/09/08/Poor-Health-A-clinic-goes-to-its-patients/stories/201409080005 The Annual GFC Volunteer and Donor Appreciation Event took place at Marian University School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Karen Spear, Ethics Professor at Marian, spoke on Franciscan servant leadership emphasizing prayer, dialogue, discernment of gifts and shared leadership. We were given a tour of the new facility. Our clients constantly need warm gloves during the winter months. (Don’t you lose gloves from time to time also?) If you could donate gloves, we will get them to someone with cold

hands right away. Once again, through very careful finances, GFC was able to stay within budget for this year. But as you can see, our strategic plan calls for several new initiatives. Those without insurance or healthcare provisions depend on our services. Our clinic in turn depends on you, our supporters. If you can make a year-end gift to help us provide more dental care or start the Women’s Health Recovery program, please call the office, use an envelope or donate on-line. Please designate if you have particular wishes for your gift. If you wish to make a lasting gift to our endowment, please contact Executive Director, Rebecca Seifert. If you have included GFC in your estate plans or would wish to do so, contact us at 639-5645. You can see from the list of contributors that hundreds of Indianapolis citizens value and support GFC.
