T H

This is a year of celebration and exploration for Rochester, paying tribute to tradition even as we welcome contemporary writers to our stages. We are offering a wide array of memorable settings, stories and characters – all with the intent of creating the best professional theatre experience you can find in Western New York. That is our anniversary promise to you.

Your upcoming season has Pulitzer and Tony-Award winners and recent hits. It includes dramas, comedies and a musical among its honored classics and modern delights. It takes real people and puts them in fictional stories. It takes fictional characters and makes them seem real. It does what only live theatre can do: touch your heart, stimulate your mind and renew your spirit.

This year you have the opportunity to subscribe to our Spring Series in the Fielding Nextstage. You can select your night as usual and guarantee your seat to see the latest in American Theatre.

Thank you for your continued patronage. See you at the theatre!

Fun and fireworks between families

A screwball comedy that pits the eccentric Sycamore family – prone to spontaneous eruptions of music, dance, poetry and fireworks – against the buttoned-up bigwigs of Wall Street and the IRS. When Alice Sycamore agrees to marry the son of ultra-conservative parents, will true love win out? A Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway classic the whole family will enjoy!

C.S. LEWIS MEETS FREUD

Just weeks before his death, legendary psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud invites young writer C. S. Lewis to his London study. On the eve of England’s entry into World War II, the two brilliant men have a battle of the minds over God, love, sex, music and the meaning of life. This deeply touching, intellectually thrilling play laced with humor and insight was last season’s Off-Broadway smash.

one family faces the music

Featuring an electrifying contemporary score of more than 30 songs, this groundbreaking, Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical is an emotional powerhouse. Captivating and ultimately hopeful, Next to Normal aims right for the heart with its story of a suburban family coming to terms with its past and bravely facing its future. The New York Times raves “It is much more than a feel-good musical; it is a feel-everything musical.”

Never judge a bookby its movie...

Ana is passionate about two things in life – order and Book Club, which she hosts at her home each week. When a documentary filmmaker’s camera injects a new energy into the club meetings and a new member invades, Ana’s world goes topsy-turvy. A delightful comedy about life, love, literature and the side-splitting results when friends start reading between the lines.

APRIL, 1865 -THE HEALING BEGINS

At the conclusion of the Civil War, a Jewish Confederate soldier returns to his family’s abandoned plantation in Virginia. Abandoned, that is, except for two of the family’s former slaves: both raised in Judaism. Against the backdrop of a changing America, the three men negotiate their new relationship, honor their shared faith and celebrate newfound freedom during Passover.

LIVE THE DREAM

A quartet of mismatched lovers and a band of bumbling rustics cross paths with the feuding fairy king and queen in a magical moonlit forest on a midsummer night. Weaving three stories of love, magic and perception, Shakespeare’s most popular comedy has been an audience favorite for centuries. An enchanting celebration of love, innocence and imagination for the entire family!

SPRING IN THE FIELDING

A tour-de-force exploration of one teaching artist’s attempt to engage a class of underachieving students in a tough Bronx high school. Actress Reenah L. Golden transforms into the teachers, students, parents, administrators, janitors and security guards who inhabit our schools and shape the future of America. An exuberant and devastatingly funny show about the collaborative power of the arts – and the influence one dynamic, determined teacher can have in altering the lives of her students – forever.

Written by Nilaja SunPerformed by Reenah L. Golden

A repressive all-male Catholic boarding school bans Romeo and Juliet in favor of Latin conjugations and the Ten Commandments. Four students unearth a secret copy and steal into the night to recite the prohibited tale of adolescent passion. While it begins as a lark, the story gradually draws the boys into a discovery of universal truth that parallels their own coming-of-age. A riveting drama within a drama that transcends the boundaries between play and player.

The ensuing rags-to-riches-to-fame-to-fall-to-legacy-to-the love of living life tale follows Bob on the funny, poignant and epic pursuit of his dream. A dream of greatness. The greatness of Bob.

A hilarious and harrowing tale that wittily examines America’s most mysterious technology icon and cuts to the bone of some of the most captivating topics in American culture. This razor-sharp monologue of pride, beauty, lust and industrial design follows the trail of technology all the way to China and back and how one man’s obsession changed the world.
