TRANSCRIPT
If you are interested in how spaces inside buildings or homes are planned and how planning impacts human behavior, our Interior Design program may be perfect for you. You will learn to identify and address functional requirements in a variety of building types, including residences, hotels, restaurants, retail stores, galleries and showrooms, offices, and other commercial spaces. You will explore the physical dimension, like space requirements, human factors, and the application of codes and regulations, as well as the psychological dimension affected by design elements and principles such as color, scale, proportion and balance. Graphic techniques such as drafting, sketching, and rendering as well as the most up to date computer technology will enable you to present your design solutions to real clients and to complete a summer internship with practicing professionals.
This program is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).
GETTING EXPERIENCE AND THE JOB
The Interior Design degree option includes professional work experience, requiring students to work outside the university while obtaining academic credit. During a summer internship between the student’s junior and senior years, students have the opportunity to work, with faculty supervision, in Oklahoma, across the nation or in an international setting. In a preparatory course, students develop a résumé and portfolio and are assisted in identifying prospective employers. OSU alumni have established their own practices or taken positions in regional and nationally known interior design and architecture firms and have had successful careers in related industries.
