TECHNICAL DESIGN
Explore your opportunities in an exciting career pathway! Tech designers or drafters are experts in
technical communication through drawings
and computer modeling, and, with the aide of
computers, can participate in the creation of
elaborate designs with accuracy and
efficiency. Drafters are classified according to
their field of work. OC offers students four
specialties:
Architectural Design Architectural drafters draw plans and digital models for houses, office complexes, shopping centers, schools and other building types. They participate in the design process that creates the built environment in which we live.
Civil Design Civil drafters prepare drawings and topographical
and relief maps used in civil engineering projects
such as highways, bridges, pipelines and water
projects.
Mechanical Technology Mechanical drafters prepare working diagrams of
machinery and mechanical devices including
dimensions, fastening methods and other
engineering information.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technology GIS is a computer technology that combines
geographic data (the locations of man-made and
natural features on the earth’s surface) and other
types of information (names, addresses,
classifications and more) to generate visual maps
and reports.
