GODDARD AT HOME: SUMMER LEARNING FUN WEEKLY PLANS 5
SUMMER LEARNING SUMMER LEARNING FUN WEEKLY PLANSPRESCHOOL & PRE-K • GET MESSY
Get Messy is a section designed for your child to engage in sensory play. Sensory play allows learners to make sense of the world around them by taking in as much information as possible from an experience by using as many intake receptors as possible on their bodies. It allows information to absorb better and with more meaning.
ACTIVITY Let’s play with foam shapes or sponges and water today. While exploring, ask your little one to identify the different shapes. Can you find all the stars?

ACTIVITY Ask your child if he or she would like to make a batch of slime. Here is a fun recipe to try. See if your child would like to add sparkles or other items to make it fun to find objects in it.
Materials needed: • 8 oz. bottle white school glue • 1 teaspoon powder laundry detergent • 1/2 cup warm water • 1 cup water • Food coloring
Instructions: 1. Empty the entire bottle of white glue into a medium-sized bowl. 2. Add food coloring (the more you add, the brighter it will be). 3. Fill the empty glue bottle with one cup of water. Shake it up to try to get
some of the leftover glue out of the bottle. Pour the water into the bowl. 4. Stir the mixture until it’s smooth. 5. Add more food coloring and stir again if you want a brighter color. 6. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of powder laundry detergent in 1/2 cup of warm
water. If you have trouble getting it to dissolve, put the mixture in the microwave for 20 seconds at a time and stir until it’s dissolved.
7. Stir the entire powder laundry detergent mixture into the glue mixture. It will almost instantly get stringy and turn into slime!
8. Add glitter or small objects if desired.
