TRANSCRIPT
Fifteen years ago the first wild wolves returned to Germany. While other European countries
have always been home to wolves, people here have to learn how to live alongside a Large Carni-
vore again, as the species was extinct in Germany for 150 years.
From the beginning, NABU – Germany‘s largest nature conservation organisation – has closely
followed and promoted the return of wolves with its information campaign “Welcome Wolf!”.
In only five years it has established a nationwide network of NABU “Wolf Ambassadors”. Due
to this, NABU and its partner Volkswagen will host an international wolf conference on the
human dimensions of wolves in Europe. The conference will take place in the city of Wolfsburg,
Germany from September 24-26, 2015.
Three panels will cover the actual debate on wolves: “Managing Wolf Populations”,
“Livestock and Wolves” and “New Ways of Coexistence: Challenges for Society and
Politics”. Scientists, politicians and practitioners from Europe and North America
will give an insight into their experience with wildlife management and discuss
practices that could make daily life with wolves easier and reduce the potential for
conflict.
In addition, different field trips will be provided to the Northern German wolf ter-
ritories, to the Harz Mountain lynx project and to livestock owners who are dealing
with the presence of wolves.
All presentations and discussions will be translated simultaneously and can be
followed in English or German language via headsets.

For 115 years, NABU’s genuine commitment
and professional know-how have inspired peo-
ple take action together for nature. One of the
oldest and largest environmental associations
in Germany, NABU has more than 560.000
members and supporters.
The preservation of natural habitats and
biodiversity, the promotion of sustainable
agriculture, forest and water management and
climate protection are among the most impor-
tant challenges for NABU. Conveying
experiences of nature and promoting know-
ledge of our environment are also a central
part of NABU’s commitment.
Hands-on nature conservation is just as much
part of the agenda of the over 2.000 NABU-
groups and 70 information centers all over
Germany as lobbying, environmental educa-
tion, research and publicity work.
