    What is Mental Illness?

    Mentalillnessesaremedicalconditionsthatdisruptapersonsthinking,

    feeling,mood,abilitytorelatetoothers,anddailyfunctioning.Justas

    diabetesisadisorderofthepancreas,mentalillnessesaremedical

    conditionsthatoftenresultinadiminishedcapacityforcopingwith

    theordinarydemandsoflife.

    Seriousmentalillnessesincludemajordepression,schizophrenia,bipolar

    disorder,obsessivecompulsivedisorder(OCD),panicdisorder,post

    traumaticstressdisorder(PTSD),eatingdisorders,andborderline

    personalitydisorder.

    Thegoodnewsaboutmentalillnessisthatrecoveryispossible.

    Mentalillnessescanaectpersonsofanyage,race,religion,orincome.

    Mentalillnessesarenottheresultofpersonalweakness,lackofcharacter,

    orpoorupbringing.Mentalillnessesaretreatable.Mostpeoplediagnosed

    withaseriousmentalillnesscanexperiencerelieffromtheirsymptomsby

    activelyparticipatinginanindividualtreatmentplan.

    knowwhensomethingiswrongwithafriend,aclassmate,ormaybe

    evensomeoneyousimplyheardabout.Talkwithwhomeveritis.Findout
