On January 5th, 2018, we received a message on Facebook [at left] from Emrah Nostalji of Rotterdam.

“In the credits for the movie [Deathly Hallows Part 1] they mention Rothenburg ob der Tauber as a film site. But, according to city’s tourist information center, [the only footageshot there was from helicopter].

“My niece from the USA (big Harry Potter fan), who is currently visiting me, also asked me about the locations in Rothenburg. Then I did a little research and found that [this scene was filmed in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany].”

We followed up with additional research and confirmed that Emrah was correct—that is the Weinstube Spitzhäuschen building seen in Voldemort’s very rapid approach to the home ofMykew Gregorovitch (the famous wand maker), while searching for the Elder Wand.http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Mykew_Gregorovitch

Harry Potter Places Supplementum: Film Site in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany

The Weinstube Spitzhäuschen building appears approximately half-way through Deathly Hallows Part 1—following Harry, Hermione, & Ron’s arrival in the Forest of Dean (after Ron was splinched during their escape from the Ministry of Magic). Following the scenes of them taking turns trying to destroy the locket Horcrux, Harry is sitting outside the tent. First he looks at his mirror shard, then hepulls out the locket and suddenly gets sucked into Voldemort’s mind. Harry witnesses the dark wizard reaching Gregorovitch’s wand shop, and all that he did there.

Unfortunately the building is seen on screen so briefly, it is very difficult to snag a good screenshot of it! What follows are the best we could get.

When you compare the poor-quality screenshots to a photo of the Weinstube Spitzhäuschen building,however, its architecture is unmistakable—as well as the cobbled street next to it, the Karlstraße.

Please Note: Gregorovitch’s wand shop was digitally added to the few seconds of footage containing the Weinstube Spitzhäuschen building. It does not exist in Bernkastel-Kues—or anywhere else for that matter.
