Introduction

The Gold Boulder property was and still is part of the larger Golden Bullet project of Central Newfoundland. The project continues to be gold focused and is centred primarily south of the small towns of Glenwood and Appleton. Originally the Golden Bullet project consisted of license 10100m only.

The original Golden Bullet property with it's 46 claim blocks (license #10100m) was optioned to Rubicon Minerals in 2002. In the following years, Rubicon Minerals completed a number of gold exploration programs that culminated in a 15 hole, 1724.5 meter drill program in 2004. With only modest results and interesting developments for the company elsewhere, the property was eventually returned to the vendors.

In 2011after lying dormant for a number of years, the Golden Bullet property, in March of 2011 was optioned to Soldi Ventures, a mineral exploration company out of Vancouver. With the acquisition of the original claim blocks complete (license #10100m), company management felt the need to expand their property holdings outside of the immediate license. On the recommendation of the author the project was expanded to include five additional non-contiguous licenses all within a15 kilometer radius of the original license. These were added to the Golden Bullet project with these additional licenses then becoming the Golden Bullet Extension property.

From June of 2011 to February of 2012 Soldi Ventures under the supervision of the author carried out an extensive exploration program on the larger project area. This program culminated in a 23 hole, 2688 meter diamond drill program with multiple intercepts of high grade gold.

The remaining Golden Bullet Extension claims blocks (license #18722m, 18723m, 18721m, 18720m,18895m) were then explored for their gold potential. The work consisted of prospecting with small recce soil grids over small portions of the license 18720m and 18721m. A number of areas of interest especially within license 18720m were identified. Here, samples from a local? quartz veined boulder returned high grade gold.

The remaining non-contiguous licenses returned only anomalous to low grade gold and were later dropped. License 18720m,18721m has since become 21530m ( now 22919m) and has been renamed the Gold Boulder property.

License #22216m which was only recently staked, because of it contiguous nature and the belief that the highly significant Knob prospect of the Golden Bullet project extends unto this property now becomes the Golden Bullet Extension property.

Location, Access & Topography

The Gold Boulder property, consisting of two contiguous licenses (originally 21530m,18895m, now 22919m) is located in eastern/central Newfoundland. Following the TCH, the property is located approximately 15 kilometers south of the community of Glenwood. A further 15 kms. to the east following a forestry access road leads directly to the property.

For mapping purposes license # 22919m can be found within the extreme south /central quadrant of map sheet 2E/02.

Forestry access roads originating from the TCH, give good access to the property. The entire area is flat with little change in elevation. Moderate regrowth has begun in areas of recent logging operations with the access roads beginning to deteriorate somewhat. Altogether though, access remains relatively good.

Regional Geology On a regional scale the Gold Boulder property lies near the eastern edge of the larger Dunnage Zone (Williams, 1979) in the Exploits subzone of the island of Newfoundland. Within the Dunnage Zone, are Cambro-Ordovician ophiolitic and volcanic, volcaniclastic and sedimentary rocks that are of island-arc and back-arc affinity. It consists of the Exploits subzone to the east and the Notre Dame subzone to the west.

To the west of the property within the Exploits subzone is the Botwood Group which consists dominantly of subaerial volcanic rock and sandstone. It also contains an upper Ordovician conglomerate that is overlain conformably with terrestrial volcanic sedimentary sequence of mafic to more dominant felsic flows and the associated pyroclastics. This is in turn overlain with Silurian, shallow marine, limestone interbedded with grey to dark grey siltstone and shale. The siltstones and shales are in turn overlain with micaceous redbeds of sandstone and shale.

Within this group lies the Mount Peyton Intrusive Suite which is the most prominent visual feature in the region. It consists of a large Siluro-Devonian batholith that has intruded the Botwood, Indian Islands and Davidsville groups. It lies to the west of the property but many fine to coarse grained intrusive gabbroic dikes and sills, probably related to the Intrusive Suite, intrude the larger region and can also be seen in the western extension of the claim blocks.

A few kilometers south and east of the property and bordering license 18895m lies the Gander River Complex. This marks the boundary between the Gander and Dunnage Zones. Though undated it is generally considered to be Ordovician or Cambrian (Blackwood, 1982).The complex forms a discontinuous opholite belt of ultramafic, mafic plutonic and extrusive rocks consisting of pyroxenite, serpentinite, magnesite, gabbro, talc-tremolite, trondhjemite and quartz porphyry. It is bounded to the west non-conformably by the Davidsville Group.

Host to the property is the mid-Ordovician Davidsville Group. It has been further divided into the Weirs Pond, Hunts Cove and Outflow Formations (Williams, 1993). These three formations consist of a sequence of conglomerate, siltstone, shale and sandstone. The group as a whole is isoclinally folded with an axial planar, penetrative slatey cleavage. Regionally the cleavage of the group trends northeast. The basal Weirs Pond Formation furthest to the east and imbricated with the Gander River Complex consists of fine to medium grained calcarenite, bioclastic limestone and conglomerate. The conglomerate is ploymictic, matrix supported with clasts ranging from pebble to boulder size. Locally the conglomerate is interbedded with the grey to greyish green sandstone and grey shale and siltstone of the formation.

The Hunts Cove Formation to the north of this formation is a thick sequence of grey to black slate and siltstone with lesser red of the same. The formation contains minor ploymictic, matrix supported conglomerate. The Outflow Formation, further to the north still consists of fine to coarse grained greyish to greenish sandstone, interbedded with grey to black shale and siltstone.

Newfoundland Geology

Taken from Barbour D. and Churchill R., 1999. Tectonostratigraphic setting: The Appalachian Orogen in Newfoundland is composed of four northeast-trending late Precambrian to lower Paleozoic tectonostratigraphic zones. The zones are termed Humber, Dunnage, Gander and Avalon Zones and were classified on the basis of distinct structural, depositional, tectonic and volcanic-plutonic characteristics. Portions of these zones were deformed during the Precambrian Avalonian Orogeny, the middle Ordovician penebscot/Taconic orogeny, the lower to middle Silurian Salinic Orogeny, the Devonian Acadian orogeny, and finally during the Carboniferous Alleghanian Orogeny. The Humber Zone records the development and subsequent destruction of an Atlantic-type passive continental margin on the southeast margin of Laurentia. The Dunnage Zone represents vestiges of the Iapetus Ocean and later accreted island arc systems and melanges. Rocks of the Gander Zone record the development and destruction of a continental margin located in the east of the Iapetus Ocean and possessing Celtic affinities. The rock record of the Avalon Zone relates to either rifting and subsequent opening of the Iapetus during Precambrian times, or to a subduction cycle that predated opening of the Iapetus. The zone was a stable marine platform during Cambro-Ordovician time, characterized by shallow water deposition of platformal carbonates and siliciclastic rocks. With the exception of the Gander-Avalon boundary, malanges and ophiolite complexes characterize the boundaries between the other zones. The Humber-Dunnage boundary is delineated by the Baie Verte - Brompton Line - Long Range Fault system along which ophiolitic slivers such as the Flatwater Pond Complex are found. The Gander River Complex separates the Gander and Avalon Zones. The Avalon-Gander boundary, the Dover Fault - Hermitage Flexure is delineated by subverticle to vertical faults that contain broad zones of ductile deformation. Siesmic data for the Baie Verte - Brompton Line and the Gander River Complex show that these major breaks do not extend to deeper crustal levels reaffirming earlier suggestions that the Dunnage Zone may be allochthonous on Humber and Gander Zone basement rocks. In addition, major structures such as Baie Verte - Brompton Line and Gander River Complex have shallowly dipping geometries consistent with ramp-flat style deformation. Within the Dunnage Zone volcanic, plutonic and sedimentary rocks record the development and eventual destruction of the Iapetus Ocean during the early to middle Paleozoic. The northwestern section of the Dunnage Zone, the Notre Dame Subzone, is underlain by a mixed volcanic-sedimentary package that was intruded by alkalic granitic bodies. The geometry of the Notre Dame Subzone is dominated by a northeast-southwest trending belt of predominantly Ordovician

aged, arc-related mafic to felsic volcanic rocks and subsidiary volcaniclastic to sedimentary lithologies. The southeastern part of the Dunnage Zone, the Exploits Subzone, is characterized by deep marine sedimentary rocks of Ordovician age and Silurian, shallow marine to fluviatile sedimentary rocks and subaerial volcanic units that have subsequently been intruded by Siluro-Devonian gabbroid and granitoid rocks. The boundary between the Exploits and Notre Dame Subzones is delineated by a late rectilinear fault or fault system termed the Red Indian Line which, in some areas, is manifested as a mylonite zone locally punctuated by intrusions.

Previous Work

The larger region was first visited by A. Murray and J. Howley (Murray& Howley, 1881) in the late 1800's. The two considered rocks along the western Gander Lake and the Gander River areas to be part of the Quebec group. In 1964 Williams (Williams, 1964) mapped the 2E/2 map area for the Geological survey of Canada.

A mapping program (1;50,000 scale) of the Gander River Complex, the Gander Group, the Davidsville and Botwood Groups began in 1978 (Blackwood, 1978). This mapping program by the Dept. Of Mines and Energy was initiated as part of the Canada -Newfoundland regional Mineral potential evaluation.

In 1988 a regional lake sediment survey was completed (Davenport, 1989). Anomalous gold values for the lake sediments of the region were set at 4 ppb. This program highlighted an extensive area of gold enrichment extending from Gander Lake, eastward to Gander Bay.

With the release of this information, much of the area was staked. A number of companies but more specifically Noranda and Gander River Minerals spent a number of seasons exploring the larger area that surrounds and sometimes included parts of the present property. This led to discovery of a number of very significant prospects such as Duder Lake, and Clutha to the northeast and the Knob and Bullet prospects, more central to the property.

More recently, the discovery of the Linear by United Carina and later the H-Pond, Grouse and Letha Prospects by Rubicon Minerals have further enhanced the region. Both companies along with the newer entrant Paragon Minerals have after Rubicon Minerals performed extensive work adjacent to but rarely within the present Gold Boulder property.

Within the property itself the only reported exploration work was mostly reconnaissance in nature and did not involve any trenching or diamond drilling programs. A small recce soil grid conducted by Rubicon Minerals within a small portion of license 21530m did identify a number of single point gold soil anomalies. No trenching occurred and the area has seen only sporadic, non-sustained, non-systematic exploration since.

Conclusions and Recommendations

Earlier prospecting on the Gold Boulder property had identified a high grade gold boulder that appeared to be local. Within the surrounding area additional, highly anomalous values of gold were identified as well.

Work this season was off a general prospecting nature with the focus on trying to identify the source of the high grade boulder. Although unsuccessful, the effort did result in locating a number of additional boulders that were anomalous in gold. From information gained this season it now appears as if the source of the boulder may be to the south, near or within the contact of the ultramafics. The anomalous values in quartz subcrop and float found throughout the property may just be localized enrichment which appears to be quite prevalent throughout the larger H-Pond -Glenwood area. With the latest results, the property has been greatly reduced and work will continue on the property as time and finances allow.
