• George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 as the first son of Augustine Washington and his second wife, Mary Ball Washington, on the grounds of Pope's Creek near present-day Colonial Beach in Westmoreland County (Virginia). Washington's ancestors were from Sulgrave, England. His great-grandfather, John Washington, emigrated to Virginia in 1657. His father had four children by his first wife, Jane Butler, two died young, but two other children survived (Lawrence, born about 1718, and Augustine, born about 1720).

• George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 and died on December 14, 1799.

• Washington began to win awards arming troops of the colony of Virginia to support the British Empire during the French and Indian War (1754-1763), a conflict that he inadvertently helped start.

• The Continental Congress appointed Washington commander in chief of the Continental Army in 1775.

• The following year, the British were driven from Boston, lost New York City and were defeated at Trenton, New Jersey, to the surprise caused Washington Crossing the river to its strategy, revolutionary forces captured the two main armies in the battle British fighter in Saratoga and Yorktown.

• He chaired the Philadelphia Convention that drafted the Constitution of the United States and in 1789, was unanimously elected as the first president of the United States

• Tried to create a nation capable of sustaining peace with its neighbors of Neutrality of 1793 provided the basis for avoiding any involvement in foreign.

• Before the end of his term, Washington retired to civilian life again, setting an important precedent of peaceful transition which has been an example not only in America but also in other future republics.

• On 1793 he founded the new federal capital, Washington named in his honor, though the presidential residence there would not be passed until the time of his successor in office, John Adams.Voluntarily resigned to be elected for a third term (for which support would not have missed), considering that the perpetuation of a president in office would be detrimental to the constitutional liberties, and established a practice broken only porFranklin D.Roosevelt.two terms of government established many policies and traditions that exist to this day.
