Geothermal Technology BriefingGeothermal Resources, Technologies,Applications & Economics:A 1-day introduction and market update for non-engineers

Course objectivesThis one-day course is designed to introduce the basics of geothermalpower (the resource types and the different methods for harnessingthem), outline the evolution of technology developments anddeployments, and provide a discussion of geothermal's competitivepositioning within the power and energy markets. Presented in aninteractive and inclusive manner, it describes the basic science andtechnology basis for geothermal energy, but places this very much withina commercial and business context. This approach makes the courseideal for those of a non-technical background and either new to theindustry or in need of a quick, convenient, yet comprehensive revisionof the key issues facing it. Past attendees have been drawn frombackgrounds as diverse as finance and investment, project development, technology provision, consultancy and regulation.

The course provides an excellent chance to get up-to-speed prior toattending the main GeoPower Americas conference on the following days.

Strategic Partner:

Supported by the Geothermal Resources Council, GeoPower Americas2011 will provide an in-depth analysis of the geothermal energymarkets in North, Central and South America, focusing on thepotential for large-scale, widespread development, and how this canbest be realized.

With important advances being made in geothermal technologies, including recent successes in oil and gas co-production, the sector ispoised to fulfil its potential as a reliable, sustainable and invariableenergy source, and a key component in global energy strategy.

The US currently leads the world in terms of installed capacity, with3,086.6 MW across nine states. With new states now looking toexploit their geothermal potential, this is the time to debate andovercome the challenges that continue to beset the industry –including the biggest challenge of all: securing finance.

This highly productive and dynamic congress provides a uniqueplatform for the thought leaders in the sector to define their futurestrategy, with investment, technology, and risk mitigation takingcenter stage this year. The interactive format and round tabledebate sessions are specifically designed to allow you to have yourquestions answered and help you establish your business outlook forthe coming year.

GeoPower Americas 2011 will bring together all stakeholders in thevalue chain to discuss how the geothermal market can be drivenforward to play a significant role alongside other renewabletechnologies in the future energy mix.
