I dedicate this series to my husband, Steve Robinson, for
advising, supporting, guiding, and editing years of work
and making my dreams possible.
I would also like to dedicate this series to my brother-in-law,
Michael Ghormley, for his expert mathematical advice,
patience, and willingness to answer my constant questions
over a period of several years.

A line segment is a straight figure with two endpoints: A & B
A line is a line segment that continues on forever at both ends.
A ray is a part of a line. It continues on forever at only one end.

A plane is a flat surface that goes on in all directions:
(Imagine a plane as a large piece of thin glass.)
Shapes that are drawn on a plan (flat surface) are called
plane figures.
triangle quadrilateral pentagon hexagon
octagon square rectangle circle
curve angle
Plane figures can be open like the curve and angle or
closed like the circle.

A right angle in an angle that forms a 90º angle at the vertex.
(This angle = 90º)
Perpendicular lines are formed by intersecting lines that form
four right angles.
An acute angle is an angle that measures less than 90º.
90º
(This angle < 90º)
An obtuse angle is an angle that measure more than 90º, but less than 180º.
90º (This angle > 90º, but < 180 º)
OR (This angle is between 90º and 180º) 180º
Measurements you should know:
90º 180º 270º 360º

Geometric figures can be moved in special ways. These
movements are called transformations. Slides, flips, and
turns are types of transformations.
In a slide transformation, the figure is slid to a different
place, but looks exactly the same. Slides may be in any
direction.
A horizontal slide is a slide horizontally in either direction.
or A vertical slide is a slide vertically in either direction.
