Genre Research: Post-Apocalyptic Fiction
Apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction is a subgenre of science fiction andthe horror genre. It typically portrays the end of civilisation as we know it,
through any different events. For e!aple, this collapse of society can be
caused by a "obie apocalypse, an e!traterrestrial invasion or nuclear
warfare. The story will also be set after such disasters occur. #ften, the
narrative will focus on sall groups or individual survivors of the apocalypse,
having to fend for theselves in a world where the yth of a pre-catastrophe
civilisation has been all but forgotten. This genre $uestions the orality of
the survivors and tests their huanity in the face of poor odds. %eaths of
characters are coon in such a genre.
&cience Fiction'
This genre portrays futuristic settings and oftenutilises the supernatural as a eans of
developing the plot. (owever, these eleents
are usually scientifically accurate or at least
plausible within the conte!t. This genre
e!plores the use of technology in the future
and the raifications of its use and
developent for civilisation.
(orror Fiction'
The horror genre focuses on attepting to scare
the audience through fear. (orror is often
supernatural, using ythical onsters or ghosts
which can appear as scary. (owever the fear can be
about soething ore rational, such as a fear of
the dark or ore often, the unknown. In such
circustances, the aspect to be afraid of can be
linked with the audience)s or the character)s
psyche.

Context Analysis: Apocalypse
The context within the Post-Apocalyptic genre isdesigned to explore chaos and ruin where the
setting is often an abandoned or derelict location
that is dark with impactful lighting. E.g. asteland or
a destroyed city that has o!ergrown with !egetation.
"t is set in a futuristic time frame because the e!ent
hasn#t happened in real life followed by
miscellaneous acti!ity influenced by audio effects.
The sounds are !ery ambient and
mysterious within the film genre$
often in!ol!ing dramatic drums for
building tension.
